Default Plenum coolant bypass

I decided to take a weekend off from porting intakes and work on my own car. I had it apart anyhow to change out the starter and coil packs so I thought why not get rid of that pesky coolant flowing through the plenum. Here are a couple of pics of my new set up.

To make a long story short I closed off the plenum coolant holes in the injector housings with set screws and installed pipe fittings on the coolant pipes. Then I routed lines from the new coolant pipe fittings to a Y block which dumps the coolant back into the upper reservoir. Volia, no more draining coolant for plenum pulls and air bleed still works like stock.

Nice......that black crome color looks awesome, I did the same with my coolant holes in the IH's last year and it makes life a lot easier when pullin the plenum!!!

I like it!!!! Very nice....you could market a kit for this. By the way, I'm going to try to send my plenum and IH to you and Jeffvette for the package deal. I discussed with Jeff and hopefully next winter and hopefully slow months for you folks.

I agree, I would love to do this mod.
Post a detailed procedure for us at least.

Very cool looking color on that motor BTW.

I like the looks of that setup. And looking forward to seeing a full write up.

What are the pros for installing the coolant bypass (aside from the obvious)?
Any downsides? Just curious why it was even a part of the LT5 in the first place.

What he said. I am tearing into the top end of my engine right now and would LOVE to get rid of the damn coolant in the plenum! I never understood why it was there in the first place!

Isn't that why there is coolant flowing through the TB? I'm talking about the plenum. The LT1 and LT4's have dry plenums but still use the TB coolant pass-through. Why can't the LT5 operate in the same fashion?

It does. No coolant goes through the plenum.

Ok Doc, coolant does go through the plenum. Comes in the sides by the TB and goes through a channel and then gets routed into the TB.

That is simply a tiny part of the plenum 'just' to get to the throttle body - and bypassing it (the throttle body) also negates the coolant in this part of the plenum. THUS............since there is no other part of the plenum with coolant, it is essentially dry (if you know what I mean, and I know you do!).
