Starter?

Recommendations, please
1) put a new starter in (TLD in Atlanta has them for $200, no core charge)
2) put a reman in (Autozone has them for @$170, lifetime warranty with a core charge)
3) have the old one rebuilt
I'm leaning toward putting a new one in as well as having the old one rebuilt and storing it as a spare.
Any other ideas? Also, anyone know of any sources less expensive than the ones listed above?
At least I'm getting plenty of practice pulling the plenum .... a couple more times and I'll qualify for "Expert"

Both times, the starter was merely water soaked. Ok, here's what you do. Get to the starter, you are an official member of the PP club, so that is not a big deal. Now, get the starter out and clamp it in a vise. Get some CRC ELECTRIC MOTOR CLEANER. Its got a red extension tube, so use it to really soak the guts of the motor while turning the armature by hand. That will displace the moisture. Now, run some jumper cables to a battery and fire it up, but when the motor runs up, remove a cable from the battery to make sure that it doesnt run very long, a couple of seconds at a time max. Thats it.
Now, if it wont fire up, you can get it rebuilt at a local shop for about $100. It will then be better than new, and warrantied.
PS: while youre under the plenum, open up the drain hole thats supposed to keep it dry under there. Here's how GM outlined the fix: http://www.zr1netregistry.com/bulletins/923076-1.jpg and http://www.zr1netregistry.com/bulletins/923076-2.jpg
I can tell you from personal experience, that once the drain hole problem is fixed, the starter problem is gone.

I talked with the previous owner at BG earlier this month and he reminded me that when I bought the Z a couple of years ago that he had some reservations about the starter. I never had a problem until now so I think the no-start was due in large part that I haven't cranked the Z in several months due to modifications that I've been sloooooowly doing. I've discovered that working and modding are not always compatible, time-wise
Anyway, long story short .... Craig (HAWAIIZR1) had a spare starter, we had lunch together yesterday and swapped Army & Corvette stories, and I brought a new starter back home. I'm going to try to get it installed later this evening or tomorrow. Will keep everyone posted of the outcome. Looking forward to waking up the beast after a looong winter!!!
And a big thanks to Craig. The ZR1 community is absolutely great because of guys like you.

Thanks again for lunch and always a pleasure to get together with you and look forward to more. You're more than welcome and I'm glad I could help out. It did not make sense for me to sit here looking at the starter when a "Brother of the Beast" is in need. Keith, you like that???
