Default Subframes?

I know with the TTA (and most cars) you can bolt on or weld on subframe connectors to stiffen it and eliminate most of the torque twisting.

We all know when you take the Targa top off, the car bounces around like the cast of Baywatch.

I've done searches and come up empty. Is there a similar solution for the C-4s??

If you have a 86 or later you can use the stock convertable X frame on a coupe. If you gots a 84-85, it can be used but brackets need to be made for the front to mount it.

R&D Racing made a X-frame for the C4 but apparently they are not making them right now.

I got a Cross frame from R&D Racing on my 84 and it made a huge diffrence in the rigidity in the car. With the top off or on the car is much more stable.

Thanks for the reply.

Besides the rare and NLA kits, has anyone here done anything about it recently? If so what?

Can't possibly imagine I'm the only one thinkin about it. Especially with the big cube guys here

Funny I was going to post this subject yesterday. I know the C4 has a full frame but still twist especially w/o the top. I know someone posted an x-brace off of a vert. If we can see a picture of it we should be able to copy it. I have been looking at mine and there are provision at the front where you can bolt on the x-brace but I didn't see any at the back. Picture would really help. If anyone has a picture of an undercarriage of a vert please post.

I have the stock brace, but the RD is better quality and cost less. See pics at my site. If you need more detailed pics, let me know. My cars always on the lift, so its easy to take more.

I dont have pics, but the process is, you would bolt the front in and connect the center.

Then you would have to lift the rear up into place and after removing the seats and carpet, drill holes into the floor. The stock install uses a plate with 2 threaded studs off it that goes from the inside through the holes you drilled and through the x frame. Then nuts go over the threaded studs.

I have all the hardware from a factory x frame and if you really need, I can take pics and post them.

I do like the R&D piece, but I had a friend looking last year and not able to locate R&D, like they folded or sold.

The top brace is something that bolts in place of the targa top.

its made of square tube.
You take the targa top off, and this is made to bolt in the stock mounts for the targa top.

Would be good to bolt in for racing.

They also make a camber brace that bolts to the upper A-arm mounts and goes in front of the engine.

I also put that on my 84 and it really stiffened up the front end.

BTW, are you looking for ZR-1 specific or C4's? If C4's you may want to get this move to C4 tech, may be more answers there.

To properly tie the frames together is going to require more than just bolt in bars. You are going to need to custom fab some mounts going fore and aft and laterally.

Unless I fab something, it's sounding like there's really no true setup to stiffen?

How well, if at all, do the crossbars work (that bolt up just behind the seats)?

Obviously we have a need

The DRM rear chassis bar and the stock or RD X frame is a great setup. I also use the RD front camber bar that most say works, although I didnt do testing myself. Rear cross bars are for harness belts only without chassis stiffining. DRM rear chassis bar takes care of the belts too.
