I found a product, that is used for boats and convertible plastic windows.
I used it to fix scratched on cd's and dvd's, and my better half took the bottle before I could use it on the top.
It's in a white bottle with a blue label - I'll see if I can get the name

You can rub scratches out of the plastic tops; I've done it.
The problem is if the scratch is too deep the process of rubbing out the scratch takes material from adjacent areas. For example, if you had a scratch that was .020" deep, the process removes .020" of material from the adjacent areas. At a distance you can't tell but if you buff the top to a high, uniform luster the surface uniformity of the top can look a bit distorted.
The bottom line is it can be done and works great for surface scratches. Deeper ones look better than the scratch itself but you may be able to see where you were working under close inspection and from certain angles.

another point to consider. the top has a "tint coat"
if the scratch is deep, and you rub it out, it can also rub through the coating.
I had a top that had the tint coat that was bad in spots, and I polished the whole top to get it uniform. it was alot of work, but came out ok, but the top wasn't as dark as before and I wouldn't do it again.
I would explore filling the scratch and a light polish rather than ruining the coating. that would be a headache.
