2022 Corvette of the Year Winner -- Modified
2021 C4 of the Year - Modified Winner

Default Winter Project

With todays weather, was wondering what everyone has on tap for this winter. For Me:

1)Port Plenum/IH/Port match IH to heads
2)Clean up the under carriage/engine/inside of wheels
3)Short Shifter Install
4)Replace plug wires
5)Test Ign modules

Does anyone know a good way to store injectors while I have them off the plenum, seem to remember that they can get messed up if let exposed, I still have the caps from the replacements.

I'm just going to do some car cleaning/restoration type stuff. Mostly, I'm just going to refresh the interior.

I'm going to do the new OEM stereo, new stereo capacitors (my stereo sucks)
New shifter handle
New window tint (former owner scratched the hell out of the current tint)

Just that stuff because I really don't know much about motors... Otherwise, I'd probably try to add some HP

try and shake the injector to get rid of the fuel, cap them if you have the sleeve to protect the pintel ends. I use small snack sized zip locks marked with a sharpie where removed for each injector and laid them in a box laced with the small bubble wrap and shelve them. when you go to reinstall use some vaseline on the o-rings.

If you want to get greedy - do a plug check and see what ones are running fatter/leaner and do a poor mans flow match with the injectors pulled from the offending cylinders.

I'm intrigued by your porting project. I'm new to the Zs (had mine not quite 2 weeks now), so lemme ask a couple questions, por favor?

1) What hp/torque gain are you expecting from doing the plenum port (and polish?) project?
2) My understanding of the (90) Zs is they do not employ the MAF, but rather MAP/computation to regulate fuel mix. So, unlike the (direct MAF method) does not altering the air flow (increasing it) also suggest a chip change to accommodate the increase?

I'm definately on the steep side of the learning curve w/ the LT5s. But, it is a lot of fun, just the same!!

P.

PS- I noticed you are from Crystal Lake. I live in Custer Park, about 25 miles south of Joliet - We're practically neighbors!

I am going to ge this exhaust situation rectumfied and then replace the oil pressure sensor and oil level sensor and install a new steering wheel and send the radio to dr don to get the CD player rebuilt and replace the switch on the drivers bolster motor...other than that, I have to save some money to fix the problems that seem to always creep up on any ZR-1 I have ever had every few months. Otherwise I would be sending the parts off to be powdercoated.

I'm going to install a new aluminum flywheel. Rebuild the bose amps at all four corners. Put in new carpet and put on new nose and gas door emblems.

Pulled the trans last week, gonna send it off to Bill B. It has always had a third gear synchro prob. Can't stand it anymore.

Engine oil works well on the injector o-rings also, and might be less questionable as to the effect? Though if those things can withstand fuel, they can probably withstand vaseline.

I will be changing my oil pan gasket, as it's slightly drippy. And hopefully I'll be installing coil-overs over the winter (or having them installed if it's over my head).

I also kinda want to dyno my car as-is, and then with an x-pipe in place of the resonator to see what kinds of gains there are to be had. Even though I like how the exhaust sounds, and it's a little on the droning side, I can't help but still want to mess with it.

You will get more out of a early car than a later, as the boss area was revised. Typically you will find roughly 15 hp from upper end porting.

It is advisable to get the car "tuned" to accommodate for the change. But it is not necessary, especially if you are planning on doing headers just down the road.

Ofcourse I'll fix anything that comes up.....so I can keep drivin'. I already did most of my winter fluids changes because I got a charity run comming up with the NYMC & the F-chat guys...wouldn't miss that run for anything as they're a fun bunch.

Oh yea my winter list...I forgot the intent of this thread....heater core, DREM, stero head again, send out shocks for rebuild, fix water leaks....yea all the fun stuff....someday I hope to get to do the go fast stuff.

I do drive it until the snow flies, drove it today to work. The only problem is, it won't be long until the snow flies here.

WINTER..

Since its going to be sitting in the garage anyway, I plan on
Cleaning up the under carriage, changing the trans fluid and I am thinking about swapping out my BB resonator for an X pipe, and I need new brakes so I am looking into a brake upgrade.
