I am not saying it isn't repainted, but I remember and have pics of my car in cloudy weather, sunny weather and morning and evening...sometimes the color could look really flat like the Ruby cars and sometimes really metallic.

I had that color (dark met. red) on a 92 LT1. Got nothing but complements on it. That was my first choice when I bought my Z but couldn't find it at the time.

To make sure it's clear since I see both colors currently on ebay, dark red metallic and ruby red are not the same color. Ruby red was only availble in 1993 and is part of the 40th anniversary package.
