Default Performance Improvements.

Hey guys, I'm looking at making performance improvements one step at a time to my bone stock 90 Z. Where should I start first. If I go with 4:10 gears how much top speed does that shave off if any. Rear gear is probably going to be the single biggest performance boost I'll make. Also I am a machinist, cnc programmer and supervisor of the shop. So as far as porting and polishing the plenum & intake goes I can slap both of them up on the cnc mill and write a program to port it any way I want and leave a 16 finish. I just don't know what dimensions to shoot for. Like what diameter and how deep to bore. Is it supposed to taper down and blend? Not sure. Any pictures, dimensions, advice would help.

If I were you I would start with an exhaust. The stock exhaust has a lot of restrictions in it. You'll se when you get under the car or take it off. Flowmaster makes a nice system, especially if you're on a budget, it's $600 shipped from Summit Racing and it sounds good. Then I would look at a chip from Mark Haibeck. With those same 2 changes on my 91 I gained about 40 hp over stock. You could also add an air intake and the 4:10 gears for some real gains with just bolt on parts and not much effort.

It made the difference I needed. I appreciate it very much. You might get a kick out of this. I had this car shipped so only saw pictures of her. Pictures didnt do it justice, there is a tear in the seat and some scratches on the steering wheel (owner pry had a belt buckle or something) It looks much worse in the pic.but the rest of the interior is near mint.
For my first drive.
1) no secondary operation
2) new starter not turning over
3) Brakes dragging badly after about 15 minutes
4) snycro in second weak
5) getting hot at stand still

Well to say the least i was horrified. But everything turned out to be easy fixes.
1) your actuator and Linkage, connectors. now have full power
2)while under the plenum checked out new starter just was loose terminal connecter.
3) needed new master cylinder:o
4) new trans sitting here THANKS AGAIN
5) low on coolant.
I attached the link on my car purchase

That a was a good price for it. How many miles does it have? I paid $22,000 for mine with 65,000 miles on it. I've had to fix a secondary vacume leak. Replace the exhaust manifolds do to the cats failing and chunks of cat material loose in the exhaust system. Replace the clutch do to the throwout bearing braking clean off. But after all that its been running great ever since.

I know I read your posts about the service you did. car has 113k miles
The guy who had it is a Lease manager at a chevy dealership. They got the car from a client, but wasn't up to their standard to display on the lot.
Guy bought it and started a complete restore. Look at what was done. I have the part receipts on some of this stuff that would knock you over.
Car has straight pipes form the cats, borla mufflers, KN, reprogrammed chip.
Car was repainted but there are a couple of bubbles.
Had some guy drive up to the house that lives 2 blocks away turns out he has 2 zr-1's a 94 and 95 with 2400 miles on one of them. He really liked this one and was very surprised on what I paid for it to say the least!

Hey Rob, Which Iron Maiden album is that picture of eddie from?
Yes I'm hopping to caravan with a few. One of them lives in Tomball. I live in Katy. And a guy named Dr. Sanji who has a 2005 ford GT and two ZR-1's. A stock 90 and a 415 lingenfelter. We are all planning to caravan together. If you can go we can all go together.
