I just purchased a 90 LT5 engine and trans to be installed in a 63 SWC.
Prior to instillation what should I do to the engine and trans? The engine has 40,000 miles.

I guess it depends on how long you plan on it not running.
is the car all done and ready to have the motor dropped in?
I don't have any advice. All I can say is WOW! What an ambitious and very cool project!! I'm sure you will get some great answers here and please keep us updated on the project.
pull the plugs and spray some light penatrating oil like wd40 down into the cyl and turn the engine over by hand
make sure everything turns over freely. you'll need an oil cooler, and I'd check all the vacuum lines and make sure the secondary actuators work ok by testing with a vacuum pump. go ahead and replace the injectors. the 90s break down with the alchy in the gas and you'll be doing it sooner or later. fic has some really good deals, do a search.
40k miles is low miles on an lt5. keep us posted and have fun!
I expect to have the engine and car complete in one year from now. I know there will be some chalenges during the journey but that is what makes these projects just plain fun and rewarding when complete.

Sounds like a very cool project, please, keep us posted and you know we love pictures!!!!
The LT-5 can make a crazy/beautiful streetrod engine....just not done very much for obvious reasons. Good luck on the build! Here is a pic of an LT-5 in a 48 chevy pick-up that was very nicely done!
All my body work is done. Car home in primer so that I could fab the cooling & exhaust before paint. It will be going back to the shop & put on a dolly for paint so that I can bring the chassis home for disassembly and powdercoating.
