While getting the oldest sons ZR1 (jwoZR1)out to get it ready for his return from Iraq we found that the back-up lights will not work. We have checked the fuse and it seems fine. I do not have any of the FSM for the car yet and if it is like the c3/c4 I would think it is on the tranny and just how do we adjust it? Is it the same as the c3's or do you just replace the whole thing?

It's been a long time since I replaced one but I think its on the tranny and its a pricey little item.
Its an easy and cheap fix,,, real easy if you have headers. Give Bill Boudreau a call in AZ He'll send you the switch and the tool that makes it an easy fix

GM pt# 10159402 from Tom Henry Chevrolet $67. + freight. You can DIY as long as you can get your wrench up there. I went to the local pawn shop and picked up a made in USA forged offset wrench for $4. and it worked excellent.
In the interim, just unplug the connection and see if one side has a constant 12v to it, it should. If your fuse is good, and you dont have 12v, then theres a break in the wire somewhere. If you do, chances are its the switch itself.

Call him direct 602-319-6575 I think he forgot to pay his domian license fee
I had a similar incident. When I checked the fuse it was ok. Interestingly fuse removal and plugging it back fixed the problem. Perhaps it was poor contact for the fuse.
Before digging in pull the fuse and replug it. You might get lucky too.

OK tried the wiring to the switch and it was showing voltage(after yurning the key onDA). ALso tried the fuse again JUST IN CASE! So next step is to get a switch. It looks like you can get it out but a real PIA to do it? will it loose alot of oil when you pull it out or is it up too high to have no effect. Thanks Gang going to get to it right after the Funfest 09', trying to get the 71' back running.

It is a PIA to get to, especially with stock exhaust and cats. the switch is above the tranny oil level, so you don't have that running down your arm ;-)
Well thats waht I had Thought a real PIA!!! but nice to know that it is below the oil level when looking at it I had thought it might be. Well ny sons car has 50k miles on it and still the factory exhaust so it does not look like fun. Any thicks or gimicks we do have a 4 post lift and lots of tools. Any comments or sugestion would be appreciated.
I will save any of the appropiate choose of words for after I am done.
