Talk me into a ZR1!
Hi, I have 01 Z06 with headers/tune & 4.10 gears & a couple of C3's. I was googling lingenfelter vettes & came across a modded zr1 (which was way too much money)........now I kinda got the bug. Talk me in or talk me out of one! How do these things run dyno? What are the "bang for buck" mods? hese things seem pretty cheap now! Thanks

If you need someone to talk you into getting one you don't need one...

No talking needed, just go for a ride in one.

Well,if you need to be talked onto one I dont think its the car for you.My advice would be go check one out, possibly drive it.If that doesnt do it for you, nothing will. Its a passion, you either have it or you dont......................I posted this before I read all the comments, most say the same thing,I guess its that passion thing.

I dont want to come off as a pompous *** here but the car does speak for itself. One ride as this thing easily screams to 7,000 grand, magic.Have you looked at one of these yet?The prices for ZR-1s are the lowest Ive ever seen them in 20 years and they look like they may drop still. At some point prices are going to start climbing,it gonna happen, just dont know when.

Car is so good, I bought 2.
The engine itself is a work of art, and if one is not careful a run to around 60mph in 1st gear can startle you if you get distracted by watching the tach surge to 7200rpm. The ZR-1 is the beginning of the resurgence of the HP war from the 60s/early 70s.
I still pull open the old magazines with the Z running with or in some cases outrunning Exotics twice its price. For many of us, owning a Z is the chance to own what was once an Exotic killer. The ZR-1 made Lamborghini's Countach and Ferrari's Red Head obsolete.
But owning a Z is much more than owning a great car, its about the fraternity of owners and the challenge of maintaining a unique engine, designed and built by a group of people that had a passion for cars, and a mission to rattle the front gates at Maranello. Make no mistake, the Z is not an unaffordable car nor is it impossible to maintain. I hate to use this term as it is so overused by Exotic owners, but this is a car with soul and a rich history....24hr records, only DOHC engine ever placed in a Corvette, etc
I remember the first time I saw the ZR-1 as a college kid when I was out in CA. We stared at the car in awe, although subtle, by the sprawl of the cars quaterpanels and the telltale tail lamps, we knew that this was a car some people were paying $100K for......as the owner fired it up, he blipped the throttle.....in unison we mumble under our breath...."That is bad as hell". I say the same thing every time I fire up my Z........good luck!

There is something about the ZR-1 that once you own one and drive it, you are hooked. The sound of the LT-5 going through the gears just can't be replicated. I have owned three C-5's and a Viper and they were nice cars, but I just couldn't "bond" with them. Bottom line, there is a ZR-1 in my shop now and always will be.

I dream of owning one of every year in 6 different colors. Unfortunately, I am only able to afford the one I own. These cars are amazing bargains for what you can buy one for. They respond nicely to headers and a simple computer tune and from there, intake, injector housing & head porting can be done to really give you a present day contender. If you have the $15-25k that it takes to buy a nice to really nice ZR-1 do it!
