Default Zr2

watched Barrett Jackson auction today-a one of a kind came up-

A ZR2 ( yes a 2) 1989 concept car of the ZR1 but with an injected 427 BB
only one built by GM as a test. It went for 65,000 . sounds cheap considering it is a one of. A 2500 mile 1990 ZR1 went for 60,000.
Made me smile though looking at my 8600 mile 1990 Z.
What is your opinion of one of a kind cars, more valuable or so rare only afew people are interested.
I was really intrigued by the ZR2.

There was a write-up in one of the car magazines back in the day comparing it to another modded ZR, maybe a supernatural, I can't remember. I don't know if there is any truth to it but it seems I remember that engine being marine duty too, but I may be wrong about that. Are you sure it was a 427 and not a 454? Either way $65k seems like a steal to me. One of the few reasons I might sell mine would be if I had a shot at that one.

On a side note, there is at least one CF member who has a C3 ZR2. Used to be pretty active over in C3 general.

I caught a glimpse of the auction where they auctioned of a "1989 Corvette Custom" It has a black crinkle coated LT-5 in it and SS badging on it. It sold for $120K.

I believe it was an '80's convertible, not a ZR-1 chassis. I thought it was a cool car. I don't recall it made crazy horsepower or anything from that fuelie 454, but it was probably a torque-monster.

The fact that it was done by GM is what makes it unique. Otherwise it's just a hacked up 'vette.

Also, is the BJ auction a re-run? Or is the car back up for sale?

I believe this car was the Big Doggie, red with a hardtop. This car looks stock until you look at the hood, slightly taller. There is an advertisement for an insurance company that has this car in it.Seeing the hood gives it away

Default It was a standard C4 body

with a 454, and yes it went cheap at $65....but mysteriously someone paid twice that for a standard (I think 1991) ZR1 prototype....when the only changes to it were an apparent maze of computer modules mounted on each side of the engine for gm to test their active handling system....and another 87 or so 1989 ZR1's have been released by GM and will eventually show up...that could be the rarest ZR1 strictly by production numbers...while I have seen the almost totally destroyed convertible someone got in from the wreckers in England, I don't know if it will or can be restored. The story the announcer gave was that so few 1989's had been produced, they just kept them so not damage the 1990 sales....I know they were used as co. cars and mules, but still that a cool 6 plus million decision (70k x 89). This would be a nice time to weigh in on the increased values (IF any) of mules. I have a GM engineering label inside the hood, and a maze of extra wiring leading to nowhere, and title says GM held my 93 for three years, but I don't think we can ever know what it was used for.

Have you ever looked at a build sheet for your car? If not, it may have hand written notes on it that "may" tell you something about your car???

Default What does a Vette and a S-10 have in common ZR-2

I thought the ZR-2 was an option code of the offroad option on the Chevy S-10 series. I guess GM must of re-used it.

Looks like it was painted a burnt orange color, or was that just the lighting?

ZR-2 is worthy of a thread.

I remember when the ZR-2 "Big Doggie" came out in the mags. I was praying for a Big Block kit to be sold over the counter. As cheap as C4s are these days - seems like a good time to sell a package.

"ZR-2" was sadly also a trim level of the Geo/Chevt Tracker. It included a giant ZR-2 logo across the doors.

A lot of RPOs showed up on different GM products.

If you have ever ridden in a big block C4 - you would get excited.

Lingenfelter did some big block conversions. 502s, etc.
