Default Opinions on a 1994 ZR-1

Looking at my first corvette, this one has caught my eye. I am going to be seeing it and taking a test drive tommorow.

http://www.alohanimitz.com/certified...4cda6bec50.htm

Yes, it is at a Kia dealer (figure that one out), and yes, I am stuck in hawaii (AKA, less overall selection)

What are your opinions on the pictures of this ZR-1? What sort of stuff should I be looking for when I go to see this car?

Thank You in advance for all your help.

That's a steal if it were original.

Wrong tires, wrong wheels, wrong emblems, paint scheme to me is horrid.

If it's what you want, I don't see you getting it any cheaper elsewhere.

Those stupid C6 emblems would come off immediately, and replaced shortly thereafter.

Why no? He is in Hawaii, his selection is limited unless he wants a huge shipping expense.

Yeah I don't care for the C6 badges and the color scheme either, but that can be corrected. Even the wheel are not permanent

I got hell for buying my ZR-1 cause it was 'not worth fixing' according to some.

If it were me, I would buy it.. then I would make it my own

Well......the car is not tastefully modded..that being said, if the car was a black car to begin with, the paint is an easy fix, wheels and tires may be a pretty easy fix especially if you want aftermarket anyway, and the emblems well again an easy fix. Let's say you can get the car, and get it fixed for $26k probably a pretty good deal for you.

Why am I thinking Hertz Rental Car

Not a lot of options in Hawaii Id buy it and make it my own at a lowever price. Badges would be the first thing to go.

That's an easy fix. Just scuff and shoot the bottom half the right color and put on new emblems. Not expensive to do.

Guys, most everyone wants and adds different wheels anyway.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. Id much rather have the Shelby in that color scheme amongst other reasons. Worth big $$$$$$.

That car is worth about 17-19k here in the mainland Not sure over in a foreign country.
The paint and wheel and emblems can be easily corrected (I have a set of orig ZR-1 amolds for sale, Im just sayin)
The paint and wheels on this one dont bother me as much as the emblems do but how ZR-1s are there in Hawaii?

If he gets it for less he can always take the emblems off and sell the on flea bay. Re paint the bottom half would be very easy. Also can sell the rims and get a new set. Easy fix. I would be more interested on the mechanical status of the drivetrain.

Yes, Hawaii is definently foreign country, just ask shipping costs.

I'm waiting to see the color scheme in person, and while I don't like the wheels as much as the original, they are not bad looking.

What sort of stuff should I look at on the car to tell if it is mechanically worth the money?
How reasonable is it as a driver car? I am not a pamper my car sort of person. And the most powerful thing I have owned was a 66hp ducati.

Does anyone happen to know some of the previous life story of this Z, based on it's vin?

As with any car 16 to 21 years old. Does it sound and idle good? Does it drive good? Is there any vibrations? Any smoke? Then the next thing you do is mash your foot in it and see if it throws you back in the seat up to 7K rpm's with no SES lights on the information center. Also remember! Just because a car has low miles on it means nothing in respect to how it might run.
But if everything runs good then I'd get it. They are fantastic sports cars even though someone gave it the Kona gold paint treatment.

I suggest you ask "HawaiiZR1", Craig, to see if he knows the car. Maybe he'll see this or I'd PM him..........

Shipping from Northern Calif is only between $1K and $1.5K I'd just buy a nicer one here and ship it to Hawaii. That's just me.

Paint alone is $7k minimum and painting in Hawaii is probably more expensive. Not knowing how well the car was maintained is another thing. Wheels / tires and exhaust is another matter.

I wouldn't settle for something just because of location only...

I'll paint the bottom of anyone's car for 7k. Just bring it over. I'd like to do one every two or three days.

Just busting your chops, Dave.

Seriously, the bottom could be done for less than $2500. $3500 with a very good mark up.

Default Test drive complete

So I went and looked at the car last night, a three hour event, stupid KIA dealer.

My opinions from what I saw:
The two color actually looked pretty good, except for the fact that they didn't even bother to wipe the layer of polen off of it when the took it out of their "storage" (AKA, dealer lot on the other side of the island).
The wheels do not even remotely match the styling of the car, and cause the tire pressure warning light in the car.
Stupid C6 ZR1 badges.
Horible paint overspray on the previously transparent roof.
Radio wouldn't turn on, the Delco Bose system (so the dealer asked if changing out the sterio would "sweeten the pot")
After about five minutes the AIR BAG light came on.
Bad battery, they had to jump it before I got there, it started the first time I got in it, but not the second. (luckly it did, hesitently, for the third, since that time I stalled it, Still getting used to manual car vs manual motorcycle)
The clutch petal seemed to need to travel much farther than the other petals to engage (maybe that's just me)
The headlights were very dim, and the brights weren't much better.
No valet key, and did these come with keyless entry? If so, they didn't have that either.
It seemed that the lumbar support would only move the passenger seat, even when selected to driver.
Light under the hood was out.
Missing jack, and it's cover didn't fit, just sat over the spot, I susspect due to what looked like aftermarket sound dampening.
The back end seemed a little uneasy sometimes on the highway at a steady 60 mph, in slightly damp weather.

It did however sound amazing.
It was fun to drive.
I liked the feel of the interior.
Gunning it from a light made the back end dance a bit (maybe this isn't a pro...)

Just seeing what you guys think of all of that.
Thank You
