Default Found a 91 ZR1 at a auto auction .. Need some advise !

Well i just came by a 1991 zr1 with 131k miles White / red, the bad thing is that i know it runs and drives but there is no way that i can go test the car being that i am pretty far away. The car is being run with a red light, red light for those that do not know is that the vehicle is as is with no warranty what so ever. I ran a Carfax and it does show that it had an accident on the left rear quarter panel all though it was repaired and looks decent at least on the pictures.
If anyone here was in my situation how much would be a reasonable price to purchase this car for sight unseen ?
Thanks in advance for all your help !

PS: This zr1 was traded in to a Chevrolet dealer Florida if anyone knows the owner or was the owner please chime in so i can get some details on this ZR1 .

This is the VIN 1G1YZ23J3M5801581

The value on a car like this Id say maybe$10,000-$12,000.A 91 with this mileage sold for $10,000 not too long ago.

If it is at a auction it is probably gonna do 7,000 maybe 8,000 tops. I would jump all over it for that price.

Well i pulled the trigger! Paid 6k for the car but will be into it around 7k after auction fees and cost of transport. Keeping my fingers crossed that everything is ok with the car! I will keep you all posted.

Default Update !

I got the z today ! i could not be happier ! The car is as solid as can be drove it home 40 miles today and feels like if it had 40k miles! everything works minus the needle on the tach it jumps from up and down every so often as if it had a poor connection. The interior smells new ! The only thing is the Key for the engine power switch is missing i tried the key for the doors but it doesnt work..... How can i get one of those keys ? do i need to go to the dealer for that ?

The key is NLA from the dealer,I see these pop up from time to time. The 91-95 keys are all the same.Look on the bright side, you are only driving the car at 250 HP,think of how fast the car will seem once those secondary open up.Harc Haibec can sell you a new computer chip that can eliminate the key on feature.

So can anyone guide me the right direction in regards to the engine power key " valet key" situation? Not only do i not have the key but i just noticed the the plastic universal key broke off in the valet switch as well.
Thanks in advance.

Takes maybe 10 minutes.Disconnect the battery, turn over the ECM and remove two 7MM? bolts and remove the small cover. Its nice to have the key but this chip is something you might have done regardless. The Valet feature is only on as long as you turn it on,once you shut the car off the key reverts to the off position.Dont know how far the plastic key in the the cylinder, might be able to get it out with some pointed tweezers.

Maybe i did not explain myself well enough. Its obvious when you buy a used car from a private party or dealership most of the time you buy them " AS IS " with no warranty written expressed or implied BUT you at least get to test drive the car and maybe have a mechanic inspect it for you prior to purchase .... I wish i had the opportunity to do that. When a seller at a dealer auction sells a car that is in good condition front line ready with no serious mechanical problems they run it green light meaning that there is a seller guarantee that there is no major mechanical problem and the vehicle is ready to ride and drive to give buyers confidence to buy and obviously have bidders bid higher and if there is something indeed wrong with the car the dealer auction will make the seller take the car back and you are not forced to keep the car i.e you can arbitrate it. Red light means pretty much the seller does not guarantee that the car they are selling will make it out of the auction without (for example) blowing a rod through the block all though some big franchise dealers have a strict policy that if the vehicle is over 10 years of age or over 100k miles they have to run them red light meaning no seller guarantee, you simply see the car for the 30 seconds that it goes through the auction block & do not get to test the car or have a mechanic inspect it, you simply place your highest bid and pray the engine, transmission, diff etc is good because you just bought the car and can not return it no matter what. Its pretty much a big gamble, nothing like buying a car through a private party or dealer.

Buying a car red light is no biggie when it cost 1500 bucks to rebuild an engine or 800 to rebuild a transmission or diff on a specific vehicle. But when you stop to think how much any of those repairs would cost on a zr1, that can scare most away from a red light zr1 at the dealer auction but hey life is all about risks, i took a big risk and it paid off.

Mind you i bid on this car online ..... This car could of had a rod knock from hell and i wouldnt of known. There was no condition report on this car.

Hope this explains the whole red light no warranty auction thing a little better.
