No, it's 1 1/2 miles all out. The runway still had
plenty of room to slow down (for me) from 181
and others (GT40's for example) to slow down
from 220+. Faster used parachutes. Remember,
this is the airport for "experimentals" like Rutan's
space vehicles. Longer runway?
And this time they will give us readouts for 1/2 mile,
mile, and 1 1/2 mile speeds. Come on down (over)!
Forgot to say: This is from a standing start. I also
have 4:10's where just AFTER the 1 mile mark I
had to shift into 6th. In that extra 1/2 mile only
gained about 10 mph.

Jim,
Prepare your Beast well for the event. Care about a perfect wheel alignement and no play in wheel bearings and steering components.

The OP doesn't say much about what's been done to the motor in the car, but for a stock or near stock ZR-1 to go 180, even with 4.10 gears, requires more distance than a mile. In fact, with 4.10s, unless the engine is modified to move the power peak up to 6500 or so and increase that power peak, you'll never make 180.
The problem is that with 4.10s in fifth, you need quite a way more power above 6000 rpm and in sixth, you are too far below the power peak. In fact, when you shift to sixth, the car is likely to slow down. 4.10s are fun on the street, great on the drag strip but they suck if you want to go really fast. That's why I've never gone to them.
My guess is even with a little taller gear, like stock or maybe 3.73, you'll still need 2-3 miles to get to 180.
Now, if your engine is modified a bit, say a 350 at 500 horses or a 368 at 524-550, then 180 will come in a shorter distance.
But, heck...try it and see what happens.
