hello c4 brothers. how are prices doing on zr1's
hey guys, I spend a lot of time on the C4 forum but none on the ZR1. I don't own one yet. But I'll be in the market this spring. Maybe over the winter. How are prices doing? Are they still going down or have they levelled off and gone sideways? i assume no appreciation yet.
thoughts on an early c5 vs c4 zr1?
ive had 3 L98's. want to skip the lt1 and go to lt5 as a keeper car.

Been looking for over a year. You can find a good deal. I know where a white 90 is for 11,500. 75k.
Low mileages are going in the 17-19k range and 60k-100k cars depending on condition is 12-15k
People still ask outrageous prices but the c5 and c6 have drove the priced down.

Just do your homework, lots of great deals on the ZR-1 right now most at half to a quarter of the original price. Many with mods equal to the selling price! Lots of bang for the $. So if your looking to buy now's the time.

The word for 2016 to describe ZR-1 transactions is "lowballing".
I would prefer to sell mine to somebody who knows what C4 maintenance is like. Most just go by the miles and how shiny the paint is. Not how sorted the boring repairs and chassis stuff is.

i recently sold an 85 for 8k that i had completely gone through with everything working, everything shiny, and zero leaks, with pretty much all new seals.
i thought that was a good price but the guy would have paid more and i should have listed it higher.
The c4 market in general just seems like its becoming bi-modal on pricing. Guys like me in late 30's early 40's who want to buy thier teenage vette will pay up to 10k in a wink if its a pristine example of the car. then there are the bottom feeders like the 86 i just bought for $650. Its interior is trashed.
in canada, the zr1 cars are all nicely kept and are holding 19-20k.
Even with usd conversion and the costs to fly down and drive it back up, ill be buying a us zr1
the white one mentioned upthread interests me.

I would continually check the forum and the ZR-1 registry regularly....I didn't even know about these forums until after I bought my Z back in Nov of 2014.......
I bought it sight unseen from gateway classics and it was the color combo I wanted blk/blk......Got a good deal at the time considering it came from a dealer and it really didn't need any work.....If you go on you tube and put in corvette #633 you will see the original advertisement for it...
If I had to buy a Z now,I would buy one modded already....You can get them for what you would pay for a stocker from the dealer, and if done right, these cars respond very well to mods...I'm about half way done with my mods but when you add up all the mods in the end, it's close to ten grand......In the end though I will have a Z with over 500 horsepower...
Check out also car gurus website....They always seem to have a lot of Zs and if you go to the dealer you can give them the old phrase nobody wants these anymore or everybody now wants a Z06......Not many dealers know the history of the ZR-1 so low ball them...You'll be Suprised they may bite..

It is a buyer's market for sure. I found mine on cargurus at a dealer about 3 hours from my house for a fair price. For a decent 90-92 driver expect to pay 14-20 depending on miles and options. 93-95s command a few thousand more. For a very rare color combo or very low mileage car, expect to pay 5 to 10k more on top of that. You can get rare color low mile '93 to '95s for less than 30k if you wait.
If you want a nice driver the world is yours and pricing is very favorable.
If you want a beat up one that you will end up spending a fortune on I've seen some beat up project ZRs in the 10k range.
In near new condition with 66k miles and all the tiny C4 things fixed with new tires and wheels and car show quality detailing, I will have right at 20k in mine. It won't be for sale though.
The good door panels for mine arrive tomorrow. I will be putting them in and the new antenna mast next week and pulling the intake plenum to rebuild my weepy PCV system.

Zen Vet Master Level VII
I just bought mine in October and was surprised at the value of a ZR1.
I was pretty serious about a 96 LT4s and looked at many. Then I "discovered" the LT5 (I'm a recovering C3 guy) and was smitten. The funny thing is that the LT4s are pretty close in pricing to the LT5s.
Huh.

All my offers have been 30k+ and I get at least a few offers a year without trying to sell my car. And.... its a 90.
12-15k are going be roachs.

thnx guys.
im 40 with three girls building a business so roach might be what i end up with in the time being.
is ZR1 Roach is better than a middle of the road L 98 in terms of its power and fun. im on my third l98 de-roaching and thourougly enjoy the hobby so why not a zr1 roach.
I can imagine parts are a wee bit harder to find for the LT5!

I have a 1991 ZR-1 in yellow/black (#1289 if my memory serves me, 39k miles) that will be up for sale as soon as I get good enough weather to take pics, price TBD. The hood needs body work (cracks in fiberglass), and the whole car needs to be repainted, but otherwise it is mechanically 99% and in tip top shape for its age and mileage. Have a laundry list of new parts on the car, as well as original and spare parts that will be sold with the car. Only mechanical issues I'm having is a LTPWS light, which literally popped up yesterday, and some vibration on a new set of tires, so will be checking for balancing or out-of-round issues. Was hoping to get the car on the market before Christmas, but doesn't look like I will have the time, so hopefully by the New Year.

Yes, absolutely, no question.
I bought my 90 4 years ago for 12K (it had 46K miles). It needed some work and TLC, and I knew that. But, for me, that was part of the fun. It's not a show car, but it has won its class in local car shows. It's a piece of important Vette history and the only (so far) DOHC engine in a Vette. I've done most of the common mods and it has plenty of power.
Merry Christmas and good luck on your search.

As stated prices are still in the toilet. The only advantage for buying a low dollar Z is that you can get one now but after spending the money to straighten it out you will be right at what a nice car would go for. Spend the money and do it right. For $20,000 you can get a nice car.
