Injectors on a 1990
Should there be a concern in purchasing a 1990 ZR-1 when the injectors haven't been replaced? Is it just the injectors? Cost?
Are there other items on a 1990 to be aware of when checking the car out or specific services that should be or would be a good idea? I know about the windshield.
Thanks.
Tom

Tom,
If original, the injectors WILL need to be replaced now or in the near future. If you do it yourself, it's not that expensive, or difficult. You should just need 16 injectors and new plenum gasket set. There are a few options when it comes to injectors, and here is a link to Marc Haibeck's site (a great resource, as is Marc himself) that discusses injector choices: http://zr1specialist.com/HAT%20Web/a...eplacement.pdf
I installed Accel injectors that I purchased through Summit, as they were a good value for me at the time, and have not had any issues with them. Gaskets can be purchased through Jerry's Gaskets, which is a highly recommended and reputable source for parts and support: http://www.jerrysgaskets.com/
Also, here is a link to a buyer's guide, which lists most of the common issues to check... it's posted on the ZR-1 Net Registry page (which is another great resource, in case you have not found it yet): http://www.zr1netregistry.com/Market...yersGuide.aspx
Hope that helps...

Injectors (Accel) 150821 Summit Racing for ~ $613.90 + Tax/shipping.
Recommend O-ring gaskets (specify for a 1990!) from Jerry's Gaskets, as well as the plenum gaskets you'll need.
There is a plastic index tap on the injectors which has to be ground off of only 8 of them. Takes 5 minutes with a Dremel.
Good time to do some "R and R" while the plenum is off. Things like:
removing the coil pack and starter and cleaning out the drain pipe under the starter.
replacing any old or dried rubber secondary vacuum connections
replacing the big (high current) electrical contacts in the starter solenoid, and shine up the surface of the solenoid contact ring (I use emery cloth.)
Inspect overall conditon
Be very careful to avoid bending one (or more?) of the small electrical pins (on that wide, multi-pin connector)
double-check to see all the electrical connectors are clean and have fresh dielectric grease on the rubber seals, including the injectors and the DIS module, etc.

I always forget about those o rings... and definitely a good time to clean up under the plenum while you are in there. Maybe even consider the coolant bypass mod to make a plenum pull even easier in the future.

A lot of owners replace coils and plug wires while under the plenum. OEM plug wires, without numbers, can be found for maybe $80 and coil options vary by price. Figure around $1000 for parts. There's several options you can look at once the plenum is pulled, one being a coolant bypass for the TB.

I'd only say FIC are stainless steel injectors and made in America. Accell are made in China. They both work great and the FIC's are a little more expensive.
While your under the plenum. Consider changing this:
Vacuum lines
coil packs. (4)
Test the secondary actuators
Ensure the spark plug wires aren't damaged
Change the spark plugs
Any input or parts from either Marc H and Jerry D should be comsidred gospel. Both are assets to the ZR-1 community!!!

I'm not sure why everybody automatically says change the injectors. If ethanol hasn't been used, they may be fine, am I missing something?
The injectors on my '90 are fine. I make a point of using ethanol free gas by where I fill up as did the original owner of my 1990.
