That is a very rare and significant car. I hope it breaks the bank.

That is a great article and story. My main question is how do you sell something that does not belong to you? Was that not the same one that has been at Bowling green along with the computer to calibrate it etc?

Yes, that car has been displayed at the NCM, shortly after is was painted. I don't think it was running at the time. As for selling something that doesn't belong to you, I'm sure after the car was ordered destroyed by GM, and sitting in a junkyard for many years it was considered "junk" or "scrap". It was then sold as such and restored? That's my guess.

Maybe that is why it has UK plates as it may have a rebuilt type of title issued there due to circumstances. If I found an abandoned car in the woods and tried to get a title, it will not be easy or perhaps even possible. I am certain he has figured something out or Mecum would not allow themselves to be liable for selling stolen property, etc.

Pretty sure this is fairly easy since it went through a junk/scrap yard. You'd have a bill of sale from the yard, which you could then use to get a salvage/rebuilt title. If you found an old car in the woods, you could title it, and it's not that hard in most states. You just file for a title with the state, and go through a waiting period. If no one disputes it, it's yours. Same thing for if someone leaves a car at a shop, after enough time has passed the shop can file for a title on it.

Car will be sold like any other "prototype" car on a Bill of Sale only. This car has a EX VIN number not a regular VIN. There are 2 1988 KOTH ZR-1's this one and Queenie. I believe Queenie is the one from the NCM with the calibration electronics to go along with it.

Neat article and I believe the picture of the flat blue 89 ZR-1 was taken in my backyard in Tampa FL; I owned VIN #00080 and helped get two of the cars back into the US. The car was stored under a tarp for a little while. I would need to find my old photos but the fence is the same (had to fix that, tarp is the same, etc.), spare tire skinny's to move it, etc. That was about 22 years ago and I just recently bought a 90 ZR-1 so that I have one to drive.

Yes the cars were sold to the junk yard before being destroyed and then sold to some Corvette Junkies who wanted to save them. The 88s are even more interesting as they are true prototypes.

Unfortunately the last time I looked the 88 was only bid to $110K and was listed as The Bid Goes On.

Yes, $110K and "the bid goes on" is where it ended up.
