I am making the rounds looking for the right ZR-1 for me. In my search I am noticing that many of the owners have taken it upon themselves to chrome the original rims.
As best I recall, it is fairly easy to apply chrome to the wheels. But what about restoration to original factory finish. Is that a difficult process? Can many shops assist with that? Would it be cheap or would I be better off buying a new set of rims?
I do not think the owners had them chromed. Like with my 2004 GTO, the factory had them chromed for dealers who wanted them. Mine were done by a company in California and I was in FL. They came with a warranty from GM.

To each his own I suppose, but I am anti-chrome.
once they are chromed you can scuff them and repaint them, but it's a real process to remove the chrome. sometimes the chrome can peel off too, ask me how I know.
I like the "polished" a molds, they look great to me.
I had chrome wheels on my car, I sand blasted through the chrome easily. The nickel and the copper were another story. I gave up on going polished and decided I was going to paint them. With some scuffing and smoothing of mild imperfections they turned out pretty nicely.
I thought about buying new A-Molds but all of the new ones have an offset as opposed to the deep recessed lug area and the edges of the spokes are squarer looking or less original looking.
