What kind of injectors do I have?
I'm very lucky at the moment. My 91 ZR1 is running very well and really very smooth. I recently I had it in my local trusty Vette shop for some routine maintenance and inspection--- it passed with flying colors.
Now, while I should feel a sense of relief I always worry about my fuel injectors and failure. I've had the car for about 20 months and had zero engine issues and it has about 76k on the odometer. I drive it about 2-3 times a week.
Without popping the plenum, is there any way to tell what kind (or if they have EVER been swapped) fuel injectors? I read about how awful the OEM injectors are prone to failure so I'd like to keep an eye on things. They are pretty tough to see through the plenum.
Thanks!

Melting Slicks
Nearly impossible to tell with the plenum on.
The three most common injectors are the original Delphi/Multec, RC Engineering and Accell, and sadly they all look pretty much alike, black top and silver metal base.
Sorry I can't be of much help.

Thanks Crabs- I stay away from ethonal based gas as from what I understand they don't provide cooling and lead to failure. I'll just keep driving and watching (or listening actually).

If you take a peek under the plenum immediately behind the alternator and under the fuel rail you can see to top of the #2 primary injector. Take a photo and post it. I (we) can tell you if it’s an OEM style Delphi injector or a replacement Lucas style injector.

That’s an OEM Dephi injector, likely original to the car. Notice the rounded top and straight sided body. Lucas style injectors have square tops and stepped bodies. See below Delphi top Lucas bottom.

I’m generally of the “ if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” persuasion. In this case you may want start squirreling away those pennies for that set of injectors. And while the plenum is off coils and wires might not be bad idea too.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a set of used injectors, i.e. "reconditioned". Where does one even obtain "used" injector to recondition? Junkyards. pull-outs because of some problem? Flow matched? At what flow rate,?
RC Injectors: I have RC injectors in my 415. At the time the originals were replaced, theyt were the very best alternative, preceeding Accel & FIC into the market. They are still very good injectors, but significantly more expensive than FIC or Accel.
Accel Injectors: Recommended by many and only an occasional report of a bad injector. Most sold through Summit Racing.
FIC Injectors: I have sold well over 100 sets of FIC, without issue. Jon Banner is the principal behind FIC and has always been easy to access for any technical questions & stands behind his products 100%. Can be purchased directly from FIC or Jerrys Gaskets.
What you need to do the job. All can be obtained from Jerrys Gaskets:
Plenum Gaskets, PN 10168684
Lower Primary Seals (set of 8 o-rings) PN 10067600_V (V= Viton compound, best for blended fuel (gasoline & ethanol)
Fuel Supply, Rails & Regulator Seals (set of 9 o-rings) PN 14104675-9V (V = Viton)

I have a set running in my car right now. They were already installed in the 90’ when I got it. No issues to this point. Given the source I wouldn’t be afraid of them. However Jerrys point is valid. A new set of Accels or FIC’s is still better than rebuilt. It’s just a matter of how much u want to spend.

I've had the Accel 150821s in my Z since 2010-11(?) and 30k+ miles now - NO problems and with full porting, headers, and Marc's tune, it made 432 rwhp, and ran 144.+ mph in the standing 1/2 mile WANNAGOFAST drags, and best 1/4 mile was 12.4 sec @ 121.x mph in the quarter mile. She runs sweet - haven't had to fuss with her in all this time! So, the Accels seem to work - last long time!
