Default Help with chain rattle issue

I have a weird chain rattle issue . I have put a new tensioner and the upgraded oiling for the passenger side tensioner in the car . What happens is anywhere between 1500/ 3 k miles after a oil change I go to start the car and the chain starts rattling and doesn't go way . So what I have done is change oil and filter and it goes away . I have. Also just changed the filter and it goes away . While in the rattle condition I have good oil pressure on the gauge . Anyone have any ideas what might be going on . Oh I use 10/40 mobile one and yes I have the oil up to the top of the distill tube .

I'm confused. You said you changed the oil filter and the noises went away? New oil filter solved the problem?

I can’t say I’ve run across this issue before. I wonder if one of the chain guide facings have worn or separated resulting in the chain guide being controlled by the tensioner only under optimal conditions of a new oil filter drain back valve. I would call Haibeck directly and ask.

BTW you do know it’s not actually the chain that rattles, it’s the uncontrolled chain guide rail hitting the head.

From Marc’s site:

The 1 engine that failed was most likely my ‘91. The failure destroyed the driver’s side valves and nicked a piston or 2.

Chasing the filter has always fixed its the past but she did it again changed the filter and this time it didn't fix it . So I guess the only thing to do is pull the motor and get to the bottom of it . My only ? Is they only had stp oil filters at the store has anyone used them and what type of drain valve do they have

Do not use STP brand filters..... buy a WIX from NAPA or AC Delco, or Mobil 1.... Order them on line if you cannot source locally.

What I have decided to do is buy a new filter housing to put on my car in hopes of solving once and for all this problem . I am going to drain and blow out my oil cooler install Jerrys braided steel lines and drop the oil pan and ck thing out there . I am giving my old housing to Bill Boudreau aka zf doc to take apart and completely ho through to see if he can find what the cause is . He is very teadious in his approach to things and will have a rebuild service to anyone who may need theirs looked at will update this thread after the change to a new one in hopes of helping anyone that might have a problem in the future
