Default Possible Starter Issues

I have a 95 ZR1 that has intermittent starting issues. At one point I thought it was a VATS issue. Not so sure at this point. I have been chasing the problem for years. Never happens at home despite my attempts to simulate conditions when it does happen. I have installed the key pellet bypass resister but that did not help. Starting to lean toward the starter. When I attempted to start the car today, the security light was off. I heard the fuel pump cycle and the dash lights dimmed ever so slightly when I attempted to start. (New battery). But got no starter engagement at all. Nothing. After about an hour of repeat attempts, which is typical, it finally started. I have a solenoid rebuild kit so I think that is the only logical next step.
Any thoughts?

Jumper the 'clutch safety switch' for diagnostics? Starter solenoid rebuild is certainly possibly a fix. Would you do or maybe a 'for hire' at SGC?

I will try that but given my history with this issue it does not make sense that that would be the cause. Probably attempt the fix myself first. I have pretty much done everything on the car myself over the years... why stop now. SGC is quite a haul for me located in south central GA..... so if I am removing it myself I may as well attempt to fix. Do you know of anyone who sells manufactured starters for these cars..... that fit?

damn I am getting old.... been a member for 26 years. I have not been on for awhile, things have changed.

Nice to see you are still around. I went back and looked at my private messages and realized I spoke to you a length about repairing the starter back in 2024. You helped me aquire the parts. Thank you.

That "dreaded no start" is a real pain, isn't it?

I'm pretty sure I did every "fix" one by one. Each seemed to help .. for a while. I finally did replace the starter a few years ago.

I don't remember where I got the Remy starter, but a new one was available a few years ago.

Are you going to rebuild yours or look for a new one?

Probably rebuild. I have the parts for the solenoid. That said if I could find one already built, I would consider just going that route.

I purchased 2 solenoid repair kits about a year ago. If I recall I think you said something about having to modify it in some way. Possibly shorten the push rod? Although I recall someone saying just to clean up and reuse the old one. Do you recall any of this? Thanks!!!!

I've always suggested that a person measures the one they remove before assuming what they've maybe bought is just replaced. Glean and reuse sounds good. Do the kits you bought include the plunger? It's been a while.

Yes it does. Not sure where I got the information for these kits but they should be a very close match. I will clean up and reuse what I can for sure. Do you still have your car?
