Re: lower temp thermostat (bad-zr1)
Can find plenty of 180's. It's real hard , in fact I found it impossible to find a 160 deg. If you can find them . Post and let everyone know.

Re: lower temp thermostat (FrankUrbinati)
I heard that is not a good idea to run a lower temp thermostat in the Z. Maybe I am wrong on this, but I heard that it will cuase the rad to fail. Again I maybe/probably am wrong on this.

Re: lower temp thermostat (90 Corvette ZR-1)
The only Non-GM thermostat currently produced that maintains the correct bypass function to not blow out the radiator is a Stant 14068 180 deg thermostat--to my knowledge. They used to produce a 160 deg version, but no more. Give me a week.

Re: lower temp thermostat (Demps)
Thanks for all the replies. The Stant 14068 180 you mentioned is the lowest I have found so far with the by pass. Still trying to find a 160.
Thanks

There was a run of 50 160 deg thermo made but all are installed. Last one I know of sold for $100.

Re: lower temp thermostat (bad-zr1)
With a brand new Ron Davis radiator and a new 180 thermostat my average cruiising engine temp was round 90 C ( 194 F ) The stock thermostat with the stock radiator ran around 97 C ( 207 F ) ( 13 degree drop from a 15 degree decrease in thermostat calibration ) Personally, I would want the motor to stay above 180... I think the 160 stat might be a little cold... a 170 would be better imho... I just don't want to find out I have a plugged cat some day... like what happened on a L-98 car of mine about 5 years ago... Iam no expert in these matters... somebody here should know the specifics... Fan control is valuble... I plan to get mine wired for manual overide... that way you can move the air as soon as you see your going to need it... like in stop and go traffic, etc... your AC control can help... but that is only 1 fan being turned on... and more load for the motor, though minimal...
Good Luck...

Then send your e-prom out to be recalibrated for the reduced temp. of the thermostat etc.

Re: lower temp thermostat (Bigvmaxx)
Thanks Ted, looks like the 180 is as low as I can go. I have already installed the fan switch so I can manually kick in both fans. Just wanted to try the 160 if available as it sure seems like the motor loves cooler temps ( just a seat of the pants feeling).

Re: lower temp thermostat (bad-zr1)
yeah, the 160 from AO Engineering is gonna be hard to find. I installed one that starts to open at 173 and fully open at 180. It think Ecklers "might" sell the same type to open at 173?? - something to look into. I do notice the reduced temps. Of course, cleaning out the rad was a factor I'm sure. I have no problems with the stock radiator yet, but the summer will be the true test. Anyone know if the slant starts to open at 180 or is it fully open at 180?

Re: lower temp thermostat (FL KEYS ON)
Stant starts at 180 and is fully open at 195. My car runs around 192 with it. The other car with a stock setup runs 197. These are steady state on the hiway.
