Thought I would post a picture of the CAMS breakout boxes so if you run across one you will know what they are. These are for OBD1 cars. The yellow is for the ECM used on the ZR1, the red one is HVAC and TPI and the blue is used for the C100 bus and other firewall connections. Very handy if you are doing conversions etc. Not too many out there.
Sakes alive. If CAMS boxes cost that much I wouldn't leave it laying on the floor. The cleaning lady might throw it away by accident. How is this apparatus better than a TECH2?
Those are breakout boxes that were in the drawer of the CAMS. The CAMS box stands about 4 ft high 3x3 and weights about 80 lbs(better bring a strong cleaning lady). It also says IBM on it thats why it was so expensive. Geoff said the breakout boxes are labeled 'Unobtainum' in the catalog and has been trying for years to get his hands on them. I posted the pictures so that others who hit equipment/garage sales know what the look like and grab them. They are very desirable to anyone working on 95 and earlier cars. For instance the only way to service/diagnose the ABS is to have that particular box.
Looks like a serious piece of equipment. I wonder if every GM dealership was required to have one.
<PS I thought you were in Algeria?>
Flight was scheduled for 5:30 PM today. Spent an hour packing this morning and came into work for a strategy meeting. What was waiting on the fax machine but a message from the Algerians postponing the meeting until next month. At least we got the message before travelling all the way over there.
Every full service dealer was supposed to have one. I was picking up a friend (Wayne) who runs a body shop at a small dealer. Out back of the service bays sat this big grey/blue box that I figured was a CAMS box. It had been sitting outside for at least a month in the rain/weather. I asked Wayne and he said they were going to haul it off but had not gotten around to it, so I had him ask and they were glad to have me take it away for them. All I had to do was ask! Do not know if the computer side works but the breakout boxes are well worth the effort.
