Default Single mass FW installed….experiencing trans noises…help!

I just installed a single mass flywheel set-up on my 95 (with only 5000 miles) and now I am experiencing strange noises coming from the transmission upon light load in 2nd and 3rd gear. At low speeds, as I slowly accelerate, the transmission is making a rattling sound that will eventually subside at high speed or by shifting into 4th. The clutch makes the usual single-mass noises in neutral at idle (as expected), and I have no problems with shifts or engagement and all new clutch components were installed (roller pilot bearing, throw-out bearing, etc) Anybody experience the same?

One of the offsets to installing a single mass is noise. Every car will be different in the amount of noise as well.

Not sure if Marc Haibeck can help you out or not, since he is relatively close to you.

Yep, sounds like normal stuff for a single. You will hear more tranny music when you're just starting off. Just the nature of the beast.

Did you use a sprung disc or a solid stock disc?
The sprung one would make less noise.

How much difference performance wise is there between the two. Is the single more reliable than the dual?

Because of the less rotating mass, the engine builds power at the wheels better in the lower rpm. THat is: it feels stronger lower in the rev range because less torque is being sapped by the dual mass - in the upper rev range, it isn't an issue. :seeya

Edit: both are very reliable.
