Before I break something with brute force and akwardness, how do I remove the shift **** on my '91? I bought a new white one and am not sure how the old one comes off. I assume it "unscrews" but I wondered if there is a set screw or something I didn't see.
pry the small shift pattern plate out with a small screw driver, pull or pry the "wedge" being careful not to mar the shifter ****, and then it just unscrews.
good luck, takes a bit to get the wedge out sometimes, I put some towels on the **** and pry it out with two screw drives and somtimes some needle nose vice grips can get at it.
Just be careful you don't pinch one of your fingers with the needle nose pliers when pulling on the wedge as it will leave a nasty blood blister.
Don't ask me how I know this. :cry
