Default A/C Question

I am trying to determine what type of freon to recharge my A/C with. I have owned the car for a little over 1 year. How can I tell if it has been converted to R134, or is it ok to evacuate the system and just recharge it with 134? The previous owner didnt know and the little green light is flashing sometimes. Thanks.

Take a look at the fittings and you can tell if it has been converted. I converted mine over to R134 and just replaced the accumulator and the fittings. They are both available at parts stores.

I am in the process of doing this right now. I had a compressor go out, so I might as well make the change to R134 at this time. As already mentioned, their should be a label under the hood that it has been converted. Also the fittings will be different to charge R134. Adapters added to the fittings for the conversion. You will want to change the accumulator and the oriface tube in the evaporator then flush out the system to recharge to R134 if you still have R12 in your system.
