This is not a flame, I love ZR1s and I was very excited when I got the chance last Sunday to race one at Carlsbad Raceway in Cali. He turned a 14.3 to my 12.3 which I thought was a little slow. Is this a slow time for a ZR1? If so what is a good time? Thanks for any info!!!!!

It was a real hot day and the air was very dense, I know I was 2/10s to 3/10s off my times so would a 14 flat be right????

No, not even close. A stock ZR-1 will run between mid 12's and mid 13's depending on air quality and traction. A 14 second run indicates a very bad driver, the power key is off or there is something wrong with the car.
4cefed ran a 12.9x recently in 100 degree heat and 70% humidity. His car is a basically stock '90.

Oohh, I KNEW this was going to come up sooner or later...yes, it could have been a possibility that the power key is off. I know, I did it the first time I ever dragged my ZR-1, and the first time I have ever done the quarter mile. I had the car off while waiting in line, and then started it up to stage and left the stupid key off! I was concentrating so hard on getting staged and all that that I forgot the most important power feature of my car!!! That run was 15.57 at 90 mph. I was laughed at by my friends...I deserved it. At least my second run ever was a 13.7 at 106. So live and learn I guess. I find my mistake really funny, so it doesn't bug me!

Hey, Brennan, at least it was quite interesting (to me, anyway) to see a ZR-1 run the quarter with the power key off. I actually thought about making one run in non-power mode myself. Also, you could just say it was an experiment to verify that the secondary port throttle system was working correctly, which, obviously it is.
Thanks for the experiment.

I'll make one run with the power key off when she gets here this weekend. Be interesting to see if I run in the 13's with the key off
As for a 14 second ZR1? I know how he could get that time (since I've done it twice in about 200 runs) - bog off the line, then spin, then miss the shift to 3rd. That should get you 14.2 or so... although the MPH should still be around 105+. Normal ZR1's run under 13.3 (usually solid 12's with a good driver) and trap in the 110-115MPH range.

Chris, when can we see the yellow beast? I am out to Chicago this weekend, but would like to plan something soon so us locals can get a peek at your Z. Ideas?

Re: (IcemanZ06)
Even LT1 vettes run faster then 14.3.
ZR1 should be between 12.8 and 13.2 with a perfect run depending on driver

Re: (MWR)
MWR, what's with the troll thing???? Although I am famliar with C5s/Z06s, I am not with ZR1s and am asking an honest question. One of your most respected board members who specializes in drag racing Beach Bum seen it, he's the one who used his computer to determine the air density. And as far as me not owning a Viper look at the pic below, I don't see a pic of your alleged ZR1.
