Electrical help please!

The battery on my 91 ZR1 died - no big deal, it's only my second one since buying the car new in 91. Went to jump start it to get home, and the jumper cables started melting - really. Disconnected the battery, and I have a short across the harness. Any ideas on where to start looking? Thanx!

Dual post battery? Top connectors could be hitting the support bar.

Jeff, not dual posts. Wires isolated from battery for ohm test...

Batteries can sometime short internally. I had one do this and during recharging, I cooked off all the fluid? Boy did that smell.

Pinched wire off the distribution block behind the battery. Straightened everything out, put the new battery in, and woke up the neighborhood with the alarm sounding! Of course, I had to locate the keys, clean myself off and turn the ignition on to disable it...
