1988 King of the Hill Prorotype
For Sale: 1987/88 King of the Hill Corvette EX5014
Awarded NCRS American Heritage designation, one of less than 50 Corvettes so recognized.
One of 50 1988 Corvettes that were built in May 87-June 87 with 1988 Vins.
This is the only one that escaped being crushed or destroyed. These were ZR-1 prototypes equipped with the Phase 2 LT-5 and ZF 6 transmission and included the body/tire/fiberglass configuration of the car that went into production. GM’s cost to build this run of cars was estimated at $250,000 each. Although it runs and drives it is not a street legal as it was never EPA tested/certified for street sale. Car has a clear Florida title with its production vin number. Includes all documentation and Lotus test calibration equipment used to develop the calibration for the production cars. $175,000. 863-660-6132

Prototypes cost many times the cost of a production car for the mfr to build. I don't work in auto but do develop mobile equipment. It's the same for our industry. There's no production scale to leverage when you're building experimental iron.

Production of these 50 cars required development of new tooling for body, contract with Lotus for engine development and build of 50+ engines (phase 1 and 2), contract with z f for development of the 6 speed transmission, new engine management system and on and on. Since the actual production decision was not made until Dec 1988 (Lotus development report included with car.) the costs were charged to these 50 cars. This is one of less than 10 GM prototype vehicles in private hands. The 1989 zs sold several years ago were pilot line cars with production vins on the dash, this has the ex vin and labels excluding it from emission laws.
