Safety Car
That car doesn't have it's original engine. Let's see if Carfax picks that up. I'll bet they show clean as a whistle.
Stop in any Chevy dlr with that VIN and the service dept can look up the warranty history. It had it's engine replaced last July under warranty.

Just messing with you. Don't post VINS on here, you need to say "Can someone PM me with CarFax". I don't have the service so I'm of no help.

Safety Car
Carfax states that the car was stolen, then set on fire and then dumped in a river. Other than those little issues everything looks great.

You guys have got to be kidding me!? Brian's been a long time very helpfull member of this board. Many members get free carfax reports sometimes as new as only a few posts. He asks for one favor and instead of offered help he's made fun of?
not a single on of you guys have more than 600 posts. Maybe after a little more time here you'll realize how much we try to help eachother rather than cut them down.
Congrats on your dad getting a new Z Brian!

To those who criticize someone for asking for a freebie carfax - so what? Who wants to buy a years worth of service for a one time report? I heard Carfax was gonna let you run a one time report for a couple of bucks. That's what they need to offer.
Maybe we can afford to buy Corvettes because we know how to hang onto our money ??

Guess.... what the carfax was worthless. The motor swap didn't show at all and the title/warranty discrepancy didn't show.
I used to work for an insurance company... so I know they buy their data from ins. co's.
Turns out the car was used as a dealer demo when bought, so at 6 months the car's warranty automatically goes into effect from GM even though never titled.
Thus... the car was delivered to dealer 2/26/04 and on 9/2/04 the warranty automaticaly went into effect ( I called a buddy at a GM dealer to verify this) The deler did this to avoid paying floor charges on the car.
The owner then bought the car "new" in 4/05 w/ 187 miles on it... he had no clue the factory warranty started in 9/04... oh well nothing exactly "illegal" was done.
The car did get a new motor at 3071 but after some digging we found out that the car dropped a valve and the whole motor was replaced under warranty... it's had a few other minor things done all "normal" and under warranty.
The seller is an honest guy... but clueless about cars and is in the backwoods of SC... he knew the car broke, knew they had it for a week, but wasn't sure that the motor was swapped.
SO... what at first looked like a very shady cover up is nothing of the sorts.
Dad's going to look at the car tomorrow =)

I do find it curious that they put a new motor in it, and the owner didn't know it. All he knew was they had it for a week? That's a bit odd. Especially for a Corvette owner. Be careful.

Carfax Source
I posted this once before. A link I found explains Carfax
http://www.squidoo.com/carfax_vehicle_history/
somebody talks about how Carfax works and what they have and don't have.
Cobra4B talks about Carfax getting data from insurance companies but this site says they don't get data from insurance companies.

We spoke directly to the service writer at the dealership and locked down what was done and why.
I haven't spoken to the owner, but my dad has and he feels good enough about it to make the trek to see the car.
He knows what he's doing and has done his homework. Plus he has leverage.
