Default Polished LS6 Heads??

I am getting my LS6 heads ported. Does it make a difference if the heads are polished? If so, what is the difference? Is there a big cost difference?

thanks for your help

Polishing makes them look nice and shiny. Apart from that not much else. And given you should never see them again, not much point.

Its shape that matters for airflow.

Some claim that a polished exhaust port ( and possibly chamber ) will lessen the chances of it sooting up with carbon deposits, although I dont think it really makes any difference.

Polishing the rough casting marks allows the air to flow better and decreases turbulence

I would think this to be true, But have yet seen any specific info on this with a back to back Air flow data. Also heard that it will reduce hot spots in the comb chamber.
Someone know for sure and have some proof.

Porting is the operation of removing casting marks and altering port shape if required.

Polishing is just that...making it shiny.

no i agreee that polishing will reduce turbulance. look at an airplane, my father used to wax and polish his airplane and showed me once the difference between dirty and clean on the Gps. there was a 18-20 mph increase when it was clean compared to when it was dirty. now think about that dirty paint is obviously smoother then bare cast metal, so i'd agree that polishing will decrease turbulance.

very similar to, and almost as valuable as what my father taught me...

also had to do with lubrication.
