Would you guys feel safe in sending a certified check or money order for the purchase of a blower to a vendor? The vendor says he is giving me such a low price quote, that he can't afford to use a Credit Card. Anyones thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks

It is true the vendor takes a minor hit on the credit card - If it were a vendor like TByrne, A and A, or ECS I waould have no issue at all with it - but if it is some guy running a distribution out of his basement there is no way I would do that.

Is he a listed Forum Vendor?

Have you called the major ones to see if they will price match?

I have sent large checks to vendors, without worry. I think it is a matter of reputation. I would have to agree that I would not send it to some guy (made out to him) running a parts shop out of his house. If you really feel bothered then offer to pay the 2% over the cost to cover his credit card fee.

Yes it is a vendor here on the forum. I understand his stance on the credit card charge. Just wanted to know if anyone else has had this situation and if they would trust the situation. I have also shopped around quite a bit with other vendors here and other forums and this vendor has the best price.
Anyone else?

If it is a reuptable vendor with some history, then I would not worry. Just make sure it is not some guy selling stuff out of the back of a running pickup truck Like ICULUKN-C5 said, offer to pay 2-3% higher to cover the credit card cost if you are really worried.

You could always tell us who the vendor is - if it is a forum vendor - there WILL be people here who have used them.

Use a money order...Postal Service can get involved if there is fraud or theft of the money without the product as described. I like having the gov't in my corner and they are pretty aggressive about pursuing the matter.

Depending on which credit card is being used, and what deal the vendor has with his card processor, the per transaction fees can range from 2% to 5% typically. So his argument is most likely true -- on a large order (let's say $10,000) he's giving away $200 to $500 just in credit card fees. OUCH!

Venders take a bigger hit then 2-3% most of the time, it depends on the volume of cc business they do. It can run as high as 6% if your trying to use a Discover card. Someone has to pay for the cash back! That's why their not accepted every where. And AMEX, the vender dosen't get his money till you pay the bill.
Back when I bought my Pro Charger, I was requested to do the same thing, except he accepted a personal check.
We had some long discussions about a lot of unrelated things and I felt comfortable with him so I pulled the trigger and he delivered.

As far as getting the goverment on your side forget it, I have a situation right now where I'm having to sue a business for far more money then a S/C system. And he committed fraud across 3 state lines and involved a CC company and the post office and the internet.
I filed claims with 3 Attorney Generals and 1 Economics crime division
of the Attorney generals office, and 2 out of 3 have said they could do nothing! The 3rd one hasn't responded yet!
In the end the decission is entirely up to you although you could do a credit check on him and contact the BBB to find any complaints against him.
Good luck!

Forget AG's they happen to be rather useless IMO...I filed a case with 3 and each one kept passing the buck to the other...I'm talking about the Postal Service Investigations....I have had great response and it is considered a federal offense to use the mail system in defrauding some...try them....seriously.

Totally depends on the tuner. If it were ECS, A&A, LPE, 21MC, etc I wouldn't mind.

Hey guys thanks for the insite. I will probably pull the trigger. I just want to be as caucious as possible. Money for the S/C would be a big spend just to have it all washed away. Now that this has been discussed on here (forum) the impact would be dramatic for this vendor if something did happen.
Thanks for your guys imput and experiences. I will let you guys know who the vendor is when my transaction is complete.

If he is a forum Vendor with good reputation, I dont see the problem.........I sent A&A a check for over $6500.00 when I bought my D1SC from him and had no problems at all.....He stands behind his product.

Depends on the vendor.
But if you want any protection you need to use a Credit Card.
