Default Belt Alignment Problem

I have a Carroll Supercharging setup that uses the Vortech headunit mounted on the passenger side. I'm having some moderate belt shredding issues that I know are related to poor pulley alignment. I have a ton of rubber dust all over the front of my pulleys, mostly around the tensioner pulley. The inner most rib is gone, and when I track the car I will lose another 2 or 3 ribs.

I did a forum search and found this is a common problem, and everyone suggests using a laser tool to align the pulleys. My question is how to do this?

So I just go to Home Depot and buy a laser leveler and then what? Hold it up against a pulley and put it in line with a rib on one pulley and see if it lines up? How do you mount or fix the laser tool to something rigid? (I assume you can't just hold it in your hand because the laser line will wobble).

I just need a little explaining. Thanks.

The following is a picture of the Gates Laser Alignment tool.

You'll notice that the tool rests on the pulley..

Good Luck,

I am interested to the answer of this question as well. If the Pulleys are out of line, how do you adjust them?

Spacers/washers are the easiest way.

Thanks Mark, that is exactly the info I was looking for. I called my local Gates vendor and it lists for $323 , but they'll sell it to me for $199. Whatever... still pricey.

Since this seems to be such a common problem in this forum, I think it would be no problem selling to another forum member for a little less after I fix my problems. Or maybe I could start a "Rent-A-BlowerBeltAlignment-Tool" website. $25 for a week.

Thx for the info.

Default Belt Alignment

I had some alignment problems few months ago.....I notoced after installing D1SC I had lots of belt dust........Now, its perfect and even went to the track and no dust. My belt was jumping 1 or 2 grooves as well.

Thanks to Arnold (gotjuiced?) they are perfect, he aligned them for me!

By the way, that is an awsome alignment tool.....a must for the tool box!
