what would it taKe for a TRANS AM to beat a C5 vette from a 20 or a 40 roll(closed track) ....CORVETTE has 3.42 gears /3200 stall/built tranny/shift kit/ built motor with H/C package and a D1SC Pushing near 650 RWHP .......I got the vette and a friend has a TA and we are gonna lin'em up I got 315/30/18 drag radials and he'll probably have 295's drag radials
He would have to have 765 rwhp to have the same weight : power ratio as you (5.23 lbs / RWHP) if you are 3,400 lbs and he is 4,000 lbs. You also have an aerodynamic advantage at higher speeds. If he is geared lower (overall) and you are only racing 1/4 mile, then he will have a little advantage in that area, or if you are geared lower, you will have another advantage. If you go from a 20 roll, I think traction will be an issue with that much power, so a 40+ roll will likely be a better indicator of the fastest (eliminating the traction variable).
my budds T/A weights close to 4k with him in it........ 3400 vs 4000 See where the 100 extra comes from?
Most TA's actually weight around 3500lbs vs a C5 coupe's 3250lbs.
A reasonable 250-300lb difference.
If the guy has heads, cam, and N20 it could come down to a drivers race. No telling what mods both sides have, best to just videotape the runs and post the video
