okay so i was at the dyno saturday, i was trying to get my car all dialed in with the nitrous. first did a base line pull (323hp, 328tq), then hit the n2o with 100 shot (414hp, 482tq) not 100hp but i figure i still have the cats on it. that part was ok. last i put the 150hp shot in (443hp, 522tq). at about 5000rpm i see a big cloud of smoke from the engine . i'm thinking i blew my motor. but the oil dip stick popped out about an inch and had oil all over the engine, and car. the car runs fine no blown head gasket or broken rings. i've herd from a few people that the ls1 crank case vent system isn't very good. just wondering if this has happened to any one else?
Ditto. Mine popped on the dyno last year, I put a spring on the dipstick then crankcase pressure pushed oil out the rear seal. That only happened once, thankfully, and it sealed itself again. I've since removed the spring, crimped the dipstick tube a little more, and replaced the oil cap with a auto parts air filter breather.
I worry more when it happens on n20 motors than FI motors. FI makes the normal PCV useless under boost (crankcase pressure has almost nowhere to go since the intake is pressurized and the only way out becomes the tiny PCV fresh air source, unless the system has been modified).
Under n20, the stock PCV should be able to still evacuate a fair amount of blowby.
I would do a leakdown and compression test to make sure things are still within spec.
Would you happen to have a p/n for that breather filter? Thanks!
No, it was a cheap no name brand from Kragen Auto. It just fits inside where the oil cap went, and the hood keeps it in place. It's not tight, though I could put a screw through the side, but it didn't pop out on the dyno with the hood up.
Take The Oil Filler Cap While Running ... If Theres Alittle Smoke Pulsation Coming Out Of There Then You Prolly Have A Blown Ringland ...or Someother Bottom Damage, No Good. Let Us Know
