I have heard this arguement many times on this forum, but to date I only know of one occasion where someone could back their opinion with numbers. I do not have an opinion to which is better just want the facts and not "my counsins friends boyfriend who rode in a vette who new a guy that said he had a blown vette...".
The difference was 10 HP increase with a custom tune over the Mag tune.

Not always just rwhp...a/f ratio, timing, adjustment over intire rpm range, etc. can make a difference in motor holding together????

Can anyone else quantify the difference??
I can tell you for sure the super chips tune is only good for blowing your motor up. There are to many parameters that they screw with that should not be messed with. My tuner went thru my PCM and showed me the BS that they call tuning, most everything detrimental to the motor. Ask for JR on Team ZR1.com for tuning advice. Highly recommended.
The superchip tuner that came programmed to my car numbers were
359 rwhp
370 rwtq
The tune I got from FLP in Naperville, full dyno tune
410 rwhp
405 rwtq
I was also told that a vacum was way way off for the transmisson.
So, I can first hand say, yes get a full dyno tune.

Were the initial numbers with a Maagnacharger, and the tune that comes with it?
Yes, about two weeks after the maggie install I went to FLP for a full dyno tune. The first set of numbers were what superchips tune gave. Plus the trans wasn't feeling right. The install was done by a recomended Maggie installer. I put on about 800 miles with no problems except the trans - which after FLP tuned everything the problem was long gone and they "found" aprox. 50rwhp and 35 rwtq. And I could tell/feel the extra, it was like a new car

Not sure why but your numbers are way low, I would have sent that thing to the company I bought it from for a full refund. My stock Z put out more than that.
The superchips doesn't take into account other mods. If you have long tube headers etc, you need to either contact superchips for a another tune or get an LS1 edit custom tune. I had long tube headers, therefore I gained 50Hp when I switched from the "original" Superchips upload to a LS1 edit. I have the graphs to prove.
lingenfelter tuned my car by mail I didnt get a tuner with the car when I bought the kit from them. The car made 495/435 on a dynojet at lizzard racing on LI.A local tuner with a "guru"rep told me he gets about 470 from his cars so why would I let him touch it?
