Default Throttle Body Poll

I bought a cheap, used 2002 LS1 throttle body off eBay the other day (mostly because I have had long standing idling issues and a few other things I thought MIGHT be throttle body related). My original TB was drilled and polished/ported all of which I know can affect drivability.

When I did a quick visual compare of the two TBs, I could see that the porting and polishing done to my original TB was significant.

So, I'm curious, what TB are you guys running? I wonder how much power I'll lose, if any, by going back to a completely factory LS1 throttle body?

(btw, I added LS1 and LS6 TBs separately because I'm not sure if the LS6 uses the same TB as the LS1).

If you pick "other", please specify it here.

LS1 and LS6 TB is one in the same. Also Drilling the hole is not required for big cam cars. With a correct tune the compensation can be made. All depends on the tuner.

I know that if idle is a problem that some people install a setscrew to keep throttle blade more open (larger angle). PCM has to relearn new closed position and after that it’s no problem. Also setscrew method allows for some adjustment whereas drilling is more permanent.

I have spare 03 Z TB and it’s the same as my 04 LS1.

Guess I have a larger cam car. I have a ported LS1 with a drilled hole in it.
My idle is 900 and its awesome.

Yes, I agree on the drilling. Also I now have a small turbo cam, no need to drill the TB at all. This was one of the reasons I wanted to try going back to stock, to see if I could tune the idle without drilling it, and see what drivability improvements could be had.

Stock OEM LS1 TB with my TT setup.

How would your describe your idling issue?

The car hunts for idle at a stop, takes a while to find a good idle on initial startup, and exhibits other issues like falling down to about 500rpm when I let off the accelerator before climbing back to 900 or so.

I also get some surging when in gear at low RPM.

These issues got 80% better when I changed my MAF and VE tables to stock Z06 settings, adjusted IFR, then made a few tweaks elsewhere, but I think there's still some drivability that can be eeked out of returning the TB to stock.
