Having an issue with 4th gear grinding when trying to engage it , sometimes it even sticks in 4th and can't be shifted out of until I reduce speed. I have been told it might be the synchros have gone out of alignment . Whatever it is , the transmission apparently needs to be redropped down ( since the newly installed clutch ) . I am wondering since it's going to be down again anyways if I should look into some trans upgrades . Hardened output shaft , 3/4 hardened syncro key , steel shift fork assembly and an overhaul kit have been suggested .

Trying to get some feedback on how to proceed ... looking at a $ 4500 - 5000 bill . (includes labour for R&R + rebuild )

I have heard of the same symptoms you are having presently caused by the clutch, probably not totally releasing. Just somewhere else to check on when you teardown. BTW, I just rebuilt my tranny, MN-6 with factory 1 thru 4 ratios, however, 5th and 6th lowered to :70 overdriven 5th and :80 overdriven 6th. As an example, with the factory 6th ratio I was going 93MPH at 2,000 rpm wheras now in 6th at 2,000rpm I am going 67MPH. In 6th, at redline, no tire slippage, I theoretically will be doing 196mph. This puts all the six ratios in a realistic range for a street driven car, a car not taken on long highway trips where mileage could be important.

Just another option for you to look at. Good Luck

Talk about timing , couldn't get into any gear besides 3rd as I was 1 block away from the shop on my way to check on my lost boost pressure issue. If it was going to pack it in , at least it saved me from some larger hassles.

Mark from Campbell Automotive talked to Rodney and he will build a tranny for me and send it up . Saving me a few bucks in the process compared to our local guy. Who I think was trying to stick something in my a$$ .

After just getting the car back , it's 2-3 weeks more in the shop and out comes my wallet again as well.

Damn , need some more play and less pay.

Dan

ps Thanks for the tip on Rodney and other options .

Another one hear for Rodney. I cannot say enough on how much he helped me out on mine. I watched him rebuild mine in less then 2 hrs. And he could have been done quicker if I not keep talking to him I watched him do his work, and he will see more from me in the future I promise you that.

Many of us, unfortunately, have experienced that.

Good Luck,
