Default Turbo noise?...

For you tt guys making over 600 RWHP...

Is there any noticeable compressor/turbine noise at idle, cruise at 40, cruise at 70, WOT acceleration from stop?

I've had a Vortech, ATI P1/D1/F1-and their idle and low speed noise is objectionable to me. WOT blower noise is not an issue-just idle and off idle low speed.

Please let me know your experience.

Thanks, Roy

May the BOOST be with you!

I must be getting old, because the idle/part throttle niose of my Procharger was really starting to bother me :o . Was your Vortech an "SQ" head unit? I thought they were supposed to be very quite.

Roy, I have the Vortech and have found that I really have to listen from inside the car to hear the blower at idle. If you do hear it, it sounds similar to a jet airpline idling at a distance. At WOT the engine and exhaust overpower the blower sound.

I heard a LPE 427TT once in person and would not have even known the TT was there if I hadn't been told.

Maybe it is time to try more CI instead of FI. Have you considered a 441?

With a turbo, if their is no load, their is no noise, unless you run wide open downpipes.

I run the TTi X kit along with Borlas. You cannot hear the turbos at idle. Even cruising around they are very quiet. At WOT it just sounds like a lot of air is being moved.

yep, with mufflers, you will not hear the turbos at idle or part throttle. that was a HUGE dissapointment for me. turbo whine is the automotive world's most beautiful sound. I now run open pipes with no muffs. you can hear the turbos at idle and you can hear the turbo whine before you see the car coming down the road now. I LOVE IT!!!

The Vortech was a few years back on a Ford product. Don't remember the model. Thanks

I guess it boils down to the mechanical step up drive noise at low speed which I guess they will all have.
I checked the Powerdyne which had a conventional internal drive V-belt but it did not have the capacity and I think it's discontinued.

Agreed, I used to be in engine design/stress analysis at International Harvester (now Navistar) and most of the diesels were turboed and I love the whine!

I guess the only huffer quiet at idle and low part throttle is a Turbo.

That makes my discision...Turbo it must be!

Thanks guys for your help and comments!

Roy that is funny. Why didn't you just let us know
you wanted to put Andy's new TT system on. As if
you hadn't already made up your mind about going
the turbo route. Here is a little more reassurance for you

No turbo noise, ever. Only "hiss" coming off boost shifting gears. If not into boost then shifts are totally quiet.

Default Never seriously considered a turbo...

Ben, I have been going to local car shows and talking to people and listening to cars and being frustrated by my self imposed no noise at idle and mild part throttle acceleration (cause I live 1 block from police station and don't want to flaunt), but I never seriously considered a turbo due to cost and complexity issues, but I keep looking at Andy's turbo installation photos and thinking that it doesn't look so complex, and Andy will probably make it affordable, and the response from the "big guys" saying the're quiet, and I remember from my I.H. experience the increasing high pitch whine (going almost to inaudibility) that I just love-so I guess I'm hooked and will have to create obtaining a turbo!

May the BOOST be with ME!

Roy

I'm with ya there... I need a "SINGER" sticker to go on my valve covers because it sounds like a bunch of sewing machines running at the same time!
