Friend of mine is breaking in his freshly built 03 cobra motor...... has solid rear end, 3.90 gears, long tubes, built motor w/ cams and a kenne bell supercharger. Any idea of how much hp he is going to be making? I know a mostly stock cobra w/ a KB will puts down over 600 rwhp......
Biggest question: What am I gonna need to make so I'm not lookin' at his tail lights?
I raced him before when i was making just over 400 rwhp and he had nearly 500 rwhp and we were pretty evenly matched. I have a 408 that is pushing just shy of 500 rwhp NA. How much spray am I gonna need to stay ahead?
just put a kb unit on yours and he will be seeing your tail lights.
More Than Zero
My plans for next year is a KB, STS, or an A&A twin turbo for the 408. I'm still waiting..... I want something different, but something that will leave most everyone in my wake. 700 to 800 rwhp should do it.
I know I'm gonna be in troulbe NA.....but maybe he will have too much wheel spin? I'll keep y'all posted. 100 shot first.....then maybe 300?

Those 03 cobras with just a KB are pretty insane. I've seen a lot of 600rwhp numbers. If he built a new motor, I'm sure he's planning for 700-800rwhp. I'd say your going to need at least a 200 shot.
60rwhp-80rwhp seems to be 100% true against the Z06 (from personal experience, and others results, the race is dead even with 60rwhp less in the Z06), it all depends on weight of his/your car
My car used to have a raceweight of 3880#'s, now it's down to 3720#'s (wheels/+rims lopped off 100#'s, I lost weight, and I don't race with a full tank of gas anymore )
In all honesty, the 10rwhp/1 pound holds relatively true. His car has solid axle, so he is probably around a 3700# race weight (solid axle is approx. 130#'s lighter compared to IRS). How much power he is making completely depends on how much boost he is making. 17#'s with cams he will be making around 600rwhp to 670rwhp (depending on tune), 23#'s he will be about 800rwhp (but will be running race gas).
Lastly, I have seen cammed/built KB cobras running 15#'s of boost and make 530rwhp. Point is, it's next to impossible to know unless you know how much boost he is running
If he's got a stock Cobra motor and is making 600rwhp, don't worry about looking at his taillights for very long. As you go by him, you'll probably smell hot oil as it sprays all over his exhaust when his engine explodes.

i had an 04 with a whipple @21 made 650 and i had a 50 shot on top of it, drove it daily for 15k miles not one problem they can handle 600 all day long.
LOL....he already messed up one of his pistons, so he got it all rebuilt w/ cams and all. I think he has the 2.2L KB unit. Not sure how much boost he is gonna be running.....
He has a convertible, so those weigh a little more than the coupes..... I'm pretty excited to see what the outcome is.
My guess is he'll be making 625-675 rwhp assuming he has the boost up. What you have to worry about is if he's spraying on top of that... they really benefit from the spray since it cools so well. TQ goes through roof on KB cars with spray!

I would agree, but you do have a big weight advantage over the Cobra!
Let us know how it turns out, and be careful.

I have over 600rwhp on a stock longblock, and have had over 600rwhp with over 30 bottles through the car (sprayed 03 cobra). My engine hasn't exploded
Also, if you want him to break his engine all you have to do is ask to run "high speed runs" a couple of times. That's when these cars lose pistons (or obviously a bad tune/too lean/too much timing/pump gas).
