Default No $$ Limit to Modding my Vette

So I've been wanting to SC the Vette for years. I'm curious to what you think about what I'm going to do to her, and if you'd add/change/delete any modding.

What I have: 99 coupe (MN6), Blackwing intake filter, GMS MAS, TPIS LT Headers, Borla Stinger Exhaust, NX Nitrous wet Kit (currently running 150 shot).

What I want to do: P1SC ~7lb boost, LS6 intake port/polished, 90MM TB, reduce the shot to 25-50HP, maybe roller rockers

Obviously, I think I'll have traction issues...any suggestions on this? Any advice on anything would be helpful. Thanks for any input. Oh, and I do not want to TT it.

Running a supercharger with nos is risky without the bottom end not being forged. I know some of the veterans will chip in on this. I dropped in a forged motor for my DS1C setup and I will also use alky for some added protection. Good luck on your future mods

If there is no limit on the $$ I would go with a 427 TT. If that's a swing I'd do a 346 ci TT.

If you decide on a ProCharger I'd skip over the P-1SC and go with a D-1SC.

Keep the stock rockers, don't mess with the TB. Sell the nx kit and the blackwing. Invest in the d1 head unit, a good blower cam and some good springs (add heads to drop the compression if you want to spend the $$s). An alky injection setup is also well worth the time and money.

Don't forget to upgrade the fuel system (pump, BAP...)

I would also suggeset tuning software and an onboard WB, but that is just me.

Default Good idea.

Get rid of the nitrous, it's too hard to tune for because it's prone to atmospheric changes and bottle pressure changes. Your computer will work better with a blower than nitrous. You may have semi-roller rockers already, the tips may not be rollers-big deal. Your motor can stand up to 9 psi without forged parts, mine is running 9 psi and is fine. Just make sure you always have Chevron Supreme in the tank. As far as the blower, a P1SC will make better boost down low but not capable as much up high as the D1SC. The D1SC comes on strong after 3000 rpm which is why they call it a "race" blower. Andy at A&A says the P1SC is good up to 700 HP. Need more? I like the ATI setup because it's engineered better.

As for the traction problems, back off on the throttle?

I'd skip the ProCharger and get one of A&A's Vortechs (T trim or YS, if money is no object, along with a forged block) or ECS Paxton Novi 2000's. They look like they put up more power down low (up top too)and you get Andy's or ECS customer support.

Andy's Vortech kit $5500
ECS Alky kit: $575
Andy/ECS Customer Support: Priceless

Here's an example on a Z06 with headers................

Except I don't think I'd go with a 427, the 4.125" bore leaves very little room between cylinders and also takes away a lot of structure... I'd stick to 4.00"-4.060" bore sizes for max boost/longevity applications. Although you can still have 427ci with the 4.060" bore by using a 4.125" stroke!

ECS,
the results, reliabilty and the fact that they stay on the cars speak for themselves.

Guys, thanks for all of your advice & comments. I think I'm going to go with a D1SC setup with a blower type cam. And after doing some research and reading your replies, I'm going to sell the NX kit too. I'm going to do this either the end of this month or next month. I'll let you know what I eventually end up doing.

Are you going to go with a forged bottom end or are you going to keep the stocker? Which D-1SC kit are you leaning towards? ECS and A&A both make custom brackets and a terrific FMIC for the ProCharger head units.

Good Luck,

Mark

No limit on money eh? For some reason i find that very unlikely. But if you truly have an unlimited budeget, i would drop the car off at lingenfelter and tell them to go nuts, do what gets the most power!

yeah, okay...so I really just wanted to see what you would say for no $$ limit, but it's basically a no limit for SCing it. I don't want a TT, just b/c. As for the D1SC, I'll give Andy a call and see what he says. Can't wait!

If you have no limit on the $, I would get the C6 Z06. If you want to stay with your C5 and a supercharger, take a good look at the Vortech and Paxton setups now being offered by A&A and ECS respectively. If you are patient and don't mind waiting for a product or changing your hood, look at the Kenne Bell blower. In addition to the SC, you will need to upgrade your fuel system, alky kit (insurance against detonation), upgrade clutch, blower cam, forged engine if you want to run boost higher than 7psi, and stickier tires. With stickier tires, you will need hardened output shafts, DTE brace, etc. to keep your rear end intact. Or, you could purchase a C6 Z06, enjoy factory delivered 505FWHP with full warranty and kick the butt of 99.9% of the cars out there. When you want to take care of the remaining 0.1% of the cars, send it to Lingenfelter (again, if money is no object.) .

Buy a finished modded vette and start from there. You'd save .50 cents on the dollar on the existing mods.

"If you decide on a ProCharger I'd skip over the P-1SC and go with a D-1SC"

FOR a $1,000 more i could not agree more as they MAKE REALLY NICE POWER in stock motor applications (see my sig on stock LS6 motor) and even more with a forged motor where you can CRANK UP THE BOOST and REALLY GET !!
