Default Supercharger Question

Can't Make Up My Mind About If I Want To Supercharge Or Heads And Cam Package. If I Decide To Supercharge Which One Is The Best To Go With? Also What Can I Expect To Pay For A Charger And Install. Btw It Is Going On My 04z.

Lots of variables in your questions. If you want the most HP, and the best drivability, you gotta go with FI. Least $$$, is No2, by far. If you're happy with 425-475 rwhp, H/C is a great way to go, but the higher HP, the less streetable, and lower mpg. SC or turbo(s) can be very reliable with a stock bottom end, if you keep the boost to under 7lbs or so. The Magnason is very cool looking and safe, and'll net you at least 450 to the rears, usually 475. It's about $7k plus a hood if you do the install yourself. Centrifical (Vortech,Procharger, Paxton) will give you even better numbers, but will be stronger only from 3500-up than the Maggie. They start @ $5k, but go up to about $10k depending on install. Turbos are probably the best for all around drivability, but they're $$$, and more complex.

I have maggies in both my Z06 and my CTS-V.

Only way to go unless you want to take a motor apart.

The hood was the kicker though.

I recommend the Motor City Mold hood.

There are deals out there if you shop.

I don't know where you live, but I got a very good deal on the whole package.

I'm actually at the same crossroad as you. I've decided to wait until spring and see how all these new turbo systems work out. I'd previously decided a H/C would not be as much fun/bang for the $$ as a SC, and was going with A&A's Procharger system. Then the whole Procharger fiasco happened, and I decided to wait. The Maggie is great, but I don't want to change hoods, and I'd prefer the top-end rush to even more low-end. I've already got poor traction. 99.9% of the time I drive pretty easy, so I figured a centri would not hurt mpgs too much, and be pretty easy on the stock bottom end if not boosted too high. Andy's was also pretty cost effective @ around $5k complete. (I'd do my own install) I have to drive about 250 miles to the nearest tuner, so I don't want anything too finicky. These turbos give you the best of both worlds, but I'm not sure if I want to spend the $$$.

I couldn't agree more. Mine will be out of the dyno-tune, from post Procharger install, at the end of the week of 12/16. I can't wait! I went through all the decisions you are going through. I decided on the max power where I wanted it. The maggies make a bunch of power at low rpm, but it's really not a usable range in my opinion. Maggies create so much power down low that you run the risk of wasting most of it on wheel spin. Plus, once you're out of first gear, that low rpm probably won't be seen again. I also really didn't want to change a hood and get it painted. Just my $0.02.

I have a 2004 LS-1 supercharged vette with 138,000 miles on it.blew a head gasket at that miles and replaced with 2004 ZO-6 crate motor now run slower due to grip, it is fast................
if I had it to do over not that I have had trouble (if you don't count my mistakes early on)but highly recommend dyno tune before you full throttle with any mods.the total cost was well over 10k after hood and paint with a magnuson reliable supercharger.but friends of mine run just as fast with a gear and cam job , also have friend with vortex charger and it runs well too.reliable yes fuel loss 1or2 miles per gallon not to bad for 100 to 150 more hp...I ran it hard but well maintain, no ridge in cylinders and will offer for sale if any one needs ls-1 2000yr motor only complete...

A heads and cam car will be very fast, menacing and will be a good street setup ie you'll win lots of races, but for sheer giggle factor and "holy **** did this car just get loose at 100mph?" appeal FI is the only way to go.

H/C with new gears on a Z06 would be bad... Cartek stage 3 was they way I was going to go.. with headers and a few other mods and you would be well over 500RWHP but your MPG will go down

this is the route I was going to go untill I came across a deal on a procharger setup 4K for the kit then another 1K in supporting mods and install and I am at 525RWHP and avg 21 MPG... I get 30+MPG on the highway

plus nothing like hitting the gas and hearing the blowoff valve.. you get some weirs looks when you do that... hahaha

I would go forced induction, either turbo or blower. A H/C is not not enough power, IMO. You might make 400 rwhp by the time you add long tubes, etc, but that will quickly get tiresome. JMO.
