This Spring I'm going to be running Andy's kit. I only have one question. Right now I am running the stock clutch on my 2004 coupe (15,000 miles on it), I was wondering if I were to get the new C6 Z06 clutch and flywheel combo from Fred Beans, would that hold up with me putting approx. 520 rwhp down? Sorry another question...Do I need to put the LS6 slave on my car if I'm running the LS7 clutch?
Thanks for all your help.
2004 LS1 cars came with C5 Z06 clutch and slave....Mine holds up fine at 520rwhp/500rwtq with the Magnacharger running 10psi of boost. It really depends on how you drive. If you drag race alot and ride the clutch alot it will die quickly...If you just drive the car for fun and don't beat the crap out of it your stock clutch should hold for quite a while...
The best thing you can do is ask Andy. The stock clutch in your car would hold up for a while as you don't put anything other that street tires on it. If you are doing the work yourself and want to save your self some money in the short term.. drive the car as is until the clutch goes.
If you are going to drag race the car OR put anything other than street tires on it (drag radials) or further.. you are going to need to go to an aftermarket clutch. Not sure how much the LS7 setup is, but why use a factory clutch? I would get with Andy or the guys from Textralia and get setup with an aftermarket clutch.
I use a twin disk Exedy.. which would be overkill for what you are going.. you should be able to get a good aftermarket clutch. There is a wealth of information here on clutches and Andy will certainly not steer you wrong.
if you put on drag radials you will burn up your clutch. If your just having fun on the street, then the stock clutch will hold just fine. You will burn the tires down before you will burn up your clutch...Its the guys that go to the track with high hp and sticky tires, then ride the clutch out of the hole, over heat the clutch till it starts slipping and bye bye cluthcy... Also 4000rpm side stepping the clutch with sticky tires is a sure way to break a clutch also among other things...

It really depends upon how hard you are on your clutch. I am still running my stock clutch with my H/C/SC and it is holding up fine so far. I have even made passes at the strip using BFG DRs. I do have a replacement SPEC clutch "in stock" should this one fail though.

Vortech, What kind of 1/4 mile times are you running with a stock clutch and DR's? What's your HP? Thanks, Brian

I didn't know that...Thanks a lot to everyone for all your input
12.06 @ 117.5 with a 60' time of 1.84. That run was at an actual altitude of 4500 feet with a density altitude of 8000 feet. I have never run my car on a dyno so I can't answer the HP question
