Interesting progression.

Looks like boost point starts at 2500rpms, making 1# by 3K rpms, 1.9 (2)# by 3500 and max boost by 5900K rpms. I think its safe to say that it will pull all the way to redline.

Chad are you tuning now or is Mike?

Chad;

a) How much max boost are you getting?

b) What other mods are on this car?

c) Is this a Z06?

d) For Z06 with LG LT, Matrix CATS and Xpipe what numbers do you think you would get?

e) When running on dyno, did you observe how much vibration the turbos were getting?

Thanks!

..Ben

RoadRebel--Thanks for the kind words, Sir.

Shinobi'sZ--Hum, Ancient Chinese Secret, Grasshopper

bernrex--wastegates are stock from STS. This was a customer supplied kit.

Z_Rocks--A) The dyno shows 5.5 lbs at 6.5 rpm before spike.
B) Bone Stock 2004 ZO6
C) See above answer
D) With better flowing exhaust you might be able to hit 550 rwhp
E) Did not watch the turbos move as a rock coming off the tire at 145 mph on the dyno might put a hole in someones head.

Nice job.

The graph and the way the boost builds is like a centrifugal SC, similar to the 12.5 psi stroker STS graph that was posted. It almost looks like they should try using smaller a/r turbines to spool the turbos earlier.

Very interesting, thank you for posting.

Hi Chad,

I think that you might find that this kit is sensitive to the Cats, if you remove them, I think you will find big HP, but lots of noise.
My hp numbers are a bit high because my car is a modded C-5. I have Lingenfelter LS-6 heads and a small cam. and shorty headers.
I was making 410 rwhp before the install.

Somebody should have told that to Bill Reid when he was going underneath my car to see if the interal wastegates on the TTi system were being pushed open.

... and they were being pushed open... and it was crazy loud underneath there - I have a permanant ringing sound of turbo's spooled in my ears ... not mention just a little unsafe

Did you follow the official STS recommended method of dyno tuning an STS system? For example, getting the whole exhaust system ht first, venting the wastgate to behind the bumper, removing the taillights, etc?

I ask because for one thing, I hit full boost (set at the stock spring rate ~6 lbs) under 3k in 4th gear. Your graph shows very differently. Maybe the turbos were not hot enough to spool quickly.

Its nice to hear that at least with one application, the STS kit is spooling to max boost under or @3K rpms. Do you have your graph, it would be interesting to compare the two.

It was a little disconcerting to see this dyno graph. 1.9lbs of boost @3500 rpms.

Nope. No dyno for me yet. I live in NY, the weather sucks, my job sucks, xmas shopping sucks, etc... I just fixed a problem I was having with one of my injectors (I just put a new set of 8 in yesterday.) I just have not had the time.

That said, I have a boost gauge and a wideband O2 (LC-1), in my car, so I can monitor it while driving. On the highway (with my new tires that actually have traction!), full boost comes on very early. I think the temperature of the exhaust system and turbos is key. I like to drive hard, so I know my turbos are HOT

Well thats relieving to hear, especially for some of the new STS owners. The street loads a little differently. I see about 150-200 rpms difference between the way my kit spools up on the dyno and the way it spools up at on the street.

Its different depending on the weight of the vehicle also. With the dynojet measuring inertia, the weight must be factored in more. Each drum weights 1600lbs, there are 2 drums, totalling 3200lbs. So it is fairly close to most C5s for 1:1 ratio and if nobody is playing dyno tricks it is a useful tool for tuning.

However if you can tune on the street and the dyno that is ideal. Charlie..A&As tuner used to primarily tune by running the car on the street. He uses both now and has a load cell for the dynojet...eddy current...loads similar to a Mustang Dyno.

Anyway it is a positive for STS that you are getting some good results.

I read your sig and you have an 03 Z with just the STS system on it..right??

Starting in 02 the stock exhaust system was dramatically improved. Elimination of the
pup cats and better flowing Cats made a large difference in performance. Apart from the cats same H pipe though.

Phoenix doesn't ever get as cold as New York.

I understand the following the heat cycle for the exhaust. That run was our 3rd within 1 hr. Are you going to run the car down the street with no rear taillight? Our Dyno is above ground and I see no need for venting the wastegate.
