What you'd want is a 4.8L crank which has a 3.267"/83mm stroke. The 4.8L has the same 3.780" bore as the 5.3L.

The 5.3L/5.7L/6.0L crank has 3.662"/92mm stroke. These motors differ by the bore (3.780"/3.898"/4.000").

I suppose an oversquare 5.38L motor can be made from a 6.0L block and a 4.8L crank (4" x 3.267").

I was under the impression that the 5.3 had a shorter stroke.

What is the 4.8L found in? Also, what material is that crank?

The 4.8L is a LR4 truck engine used since '99 to present. I have no idea what the material is, google is your friend here. I found some info on the crank flange and rod length from automotiverebuilder.com.

"4.8L Cranks
There are two cranks for the 4.8L, one with a wide crank flange (1.250?) and one with a narrow flange (0.857?). Although we don't know exactly what GM did, it appears that the '99-'00 trucks with manual transmissions came with the 12553312 casting that had the wide flange and the '99 - '00 trucks with automatic transmissions came with the 12553482 crank that had the narrow flange. All of the 4.8L motors used the crank with the narrow flange starting in '01."
...
"The Long Rods
The 4.8L engine used a "long rod" that measured 6.275? center-to-center because it had a shorter stroke. Look for a 121BW casting number on the side of the cap. "

what would be a benefit to having different sized crank flanges?
