FYI.
On Speedchannel Monday night at 10PM
AMG cars. As a fan of them and previous owner, I'm going to watch and drool.

I am a Benz tech and let me tell you, my built frc feels like a pig compared to those AMG 65 cars (espacaly the SL) 65=twin turbo v12 Even the AMG55 Kompressors are fast. E55's can run 11's. We have a SL65 that comes to the dealership with a Renntech package. About 700hp and over 1000ft lbs of torque Stock drivetrain takes it, no trans problems yet! Try that with a stock gm trans Thanks, my tivo is set. check out this guys vids. Rennteched S600 biturbo and a SL65 http://treynor.com/DragRaces.html

It was a good show! I still don't see how a built vette feels like a pig though. The MBs weigh about a thousand more pounds with comparable power.

Not to say I wouldn't love to have any of the the AMGs shown, but I've ran into SL55s and the like on the highway that thought they'd show me a thing or two and couldn't.

SL55 and SL65 are 2 COMPLETLY diffrent animals. 55=supercharged V8 65=twin turbo V12. I'm not saying the vettes slow but the sl65 runs mid 11's stock on a 285 tire on a 19" rim. Hears a vid of a s600, not even a amg but a detuned version of the same v12 tunning in the 11's. By the way a s class weighs almost a ton more than a sl so you get the idea of how fast a sl65 is.

Thanks for the show warning!

They are Very Nice cars, but for the cost of an SL65, it should be nice.

We almost bought a new 04 E55, but cheaped out and ordered an 04 E500 instead (I couldn't justify the extra $20k, and kick myself for it now).

Nice vid. The most impressive thing in it to me is the TCS of the MB--no smoke or spin with its weight gave it pretty good 60' times on the street rubber

The other is the anouncer stating the viper cost more than the benz

I still feel comfortable against one on the street though. That comes having close to the rated hp of the MB at the wheels though One thing I don't have is the turbo tq

I drive a 2006 SLK55 and it'll beat any stock Vette except the new ZO6.

Love the new SLK55. Now if it only had the supercharger For those who don't know the slk is the size of a s2000 with a AMG 5.5L V8

You can get a blower for it. I'm not because it's my daily driver and I will only have it for about a year or so.

AMEN to that. The SLK55 is repeatedly said to be the most fun AMG of all to toss around. With A K7 blower it would hold it's own with most street machines.
If I had to do it all over again, (and with what I've spent on my Z so far, and going to spend) I would go for an SL65.
To those of you who have never driven (owned) an AMG vehicle, they truly are amazing vehicles that seem like a billet-bullet. My M3 is nice in a different way (handling) but lacks the plushness/solidity/feel of the AMG.

Soposedly sl65's pull hard all the way up to its 300kph limiter. I know first hand thay pull hard up to around 120mph whare I let off(on a race track ) I frogot about the Kleeman on the slk. That would just be nuts! If you ever get the chance to ride or drive in a Renntech tuned AMG65 car I highly reccomend it. You would never believe how much power these cars have. 1000FT LBS of torque in a rodster while getting a back massage. Can't beat that

RennTech SL65's ECU package raises the top speed limiter too!

That'd be a Scary FAST ride!

Confirmed...I am nuts. I just got my Kleemanized 600Hp AMG SLK55 back from tuning. Its fast as shiate!

Pics of the SLK & my RX-7: (post #17): :thumbs.
http://www.mbworld.org/forums/showthread.php?t=131048

Some guy just ran his at the drag strip with no experience & got an 11.7 quarter on 245 DRs. Think these cars need wider rubber than 245 (stock width) due to the power & torque though. My car just leaves twin balck morse code rubber strips with TC engaged...disengaged & its white smoke city . See ya.
