Default Boost guage mounting

Just finishing STS install. Where have you guys been mounting boost guages. I ordered an Auto Meter guage and singlr pod with the kit but really don't like the looks when it is mounted on the "A" pillar. Does anyone make a better looking pod?

If you don't like the a-pillar just use the ashtray area.

I'm not sure if I read that correctly, but did you say single pod? I do think that would look funny. I used the dual pod for the Apillar and it looks very factory. That'll give you room for an extra gauge "oil pressure". Sorry couldn't resist. Seriously though, dual pod, boost and fuel pressure. Thats what most people do.

I went with the dual pod I used BlackMagicC5's on my car and I like it. I have the white phantom fuel and boost guage and wired in the Alky light to boot

I've got Autometer Cobalt boost and fuel pressure gauges in a dual-pod...looks GREAT with the dash lighting at night.

I made the mistake of buying a ricey boost gauge cuz it looked good on the website...couldn't find a fuel pressure gauge to match and it didn't have a remote sensor (read: thread vacuum tubing 6-8 feet without kinking it.) I guess ricers don't care if they have enough fuel going to their motors.

I am about to install dual pillar gauges in my C5 as well and thinking of going with the autometer cobalts as previously mentioned. Are you guys using electric or mechanical boost gauges?

The Cobalts are all electric (it's that difference in price, it shows in wiring looms, documentation, and included bits.) The Autometers were night and day better than the AC Autotechnic boost gauge I originally got for the car.

The boost sensor is a seperate unit you need to mount in the engine bay, there's a nice little spot next to the brake booster in our car...I used a bit of L-bracket to mount it. (tho I think that may be the location for the clutch master cylinder for a 6-speed)

Actually, autometer does make a mechanical boost gauge in the cobalt series. It is quite a bit cheaper.

I may have picked the more expensive one based on my experiences with a purely mechanical gauge. (My memory's gone to CR*P since the twins were born.)

I have also seen someone with a custom made pod on the console in place of the unusable cup holder, but most of us use the a-pillar as pictured below.

i currently have my console painted and may make another and place 3 guages where the ac control is and drop the ac to the ashtray area. still have a while to go as i dont have any power adders just have o pick one up and work some magic and see if i like the location for the gauges. the pod is a dead giveaway to a power adder and dont want to lead on too much.

Default Boost guage mounting

I purchased a Starcraft high rise hood from Lingenfelter when I installed my Magnuson supercharger. The hood has a 3" cowl, and I placed the gagues, Autometer Cobalt (electric) boost & fuel pressure in the back of the hood cowl facing the driver. I think the look is really sharp, especially at night. If you install electric gauges, make sure you tap into the right lead for the auto zeroing funtion of the gauges. On advice from another forum member, I spliced onto the pink wire from the ignition switch for that function, and it works perfect. Good Luck

I like this better than mine. Looks like yours mounts further forward ... quite abit ahead of the wheel.

Mine is on the A-pillar ... but gauge is level with my wheel ... and only 3 inches off to Lt side. Too close to the wheel for me.

The pillar pod is Autometer, same as the gauges, model # AUT12192, purchase price was about 59.00.

I'm in the process of making a custom mount . I already designed it and have it mounted in a temp mount, but want to have a finished product.
The A-pillar mount is too much of a difference in focal length when looking quickly and shifting at the same time. The dash is the perfect distance so I want to keep all my gauges the same distance. I'll post a picture later when I am finished.
