Default Fuel pump upgrading

Hi all,
I've been trying to research upgrading my fuel system on my '99, and I've seen mention of the fuel sock. Can someone describe to me what the "sock" is in relation to the fuel pump. What does it look like, where does it go, what does it do, etc.? I will be installing an STS turbo to my '99 Vette, and want to upgrade the fuel system, and put in a new Racetronix fuel pump and harness kit. Will I also need to buy a seperate "sock"? I just want to get as much info as possible.
Thank you,
Chris

PS. Any suggestion on what is a good Repair Manual to buy that has a lot of detailed instructions and pictures of all the systems in the C5, that will be a good reference book? I've had Chilton's manuals in the past for other vehicles and they seemed good for the price. Is the actual GM shop manual any better and what do they cost?

The "fuel sock" is nothing nore than a filter that goes on the pump itself. (it looks like a sock)

The Racetronix system comes with the pump filter screen and the bucket filter sock. There is nothing more to buy.

Yep, I installed one of these kits a few weeks ago. The sock is included and nice and clean Unlike the one I pulled out

However, I must admit that a fuel pump swap is not a fun job on these cars. It's not hard, but it is no fun at all.

I just installed one of your kits and I have to say, that is a very nice harness. As far as the sock, I must assume that it was already installed in the bucket right? The only thing I had to do is swap the top from my old one over to the new one as well as the float and the big filter that clips on to the bottom of the bucket. Is this correct? I didn't need to open the new bucket for any reason right?

Yea, the sock is the big filter that clamps to the bottom of the bucket. You did it correctly.

Well, if this is the case, I did not get a new one with my kit. The current one didn't look bad so I put it back on.

The last time I changed pump it came with a sock and my old one did not look so good. It’s basically your first filter or inlet filter and I would change it for new one.
