Default Gauge Install

I'm installing a set of Autometer gauges and was wondering where everyone is tapping 12v for the gauges to come on with the headlights? I took care of the cranking 12v I just need to hook up the lights. I don't care about the dimming, just want them to come on with the other lights.

Thanks

A 12V source that is only on with the lights causes problems because of how the dimming works (wven though you don't care about the dimming). Most of us (myself included) just tap into a regular 12V ignition switched source and have the back lighting on all the time. You can't see it in the day.

I tapped in to the 12v supply for the lowbeams so the guage light comes on whenever the headlights are on. there is no dimming capabilitity and all the other lighting systems seem to work fine. Yhe supply wire is located in a large connector located under the dash panel which is directly below the steering column.

that was good!

i tapped into the orange(+) and brown w/wht stripe(-) in my center console. where my "select-a-ride" thingy is. it was easiest access for me.. all of my gauges dim with the normal dimmer and come on and off with the other lights..
good luck.
