Default Proper PCV Setup

I've seen in a couple of threads the mention of inadequate PCV setup causing engine failure on FI motors. What is considered a proper setup. I have the line that went to the intake going to the air filter.

Posted elsewhere, do a search here @ CF for "McMaster"...

http://www.mcmaster.com/

search for "7775 K52" on mcmaster's site. ~ $12.16 plus shipping. Then add a couple of brass barbs to it.

Place the check valve inline with your pcv system (and between your catch can if you have one.) Make sure the valve is oriented so that boost from the intake cannot be forced into the valve covers.

There is more to it than a check valve. It basically needs to also vent under boost.

There have been a ton of threads on it and I have spent time creating detailed diagrams, taking pictures..., but the forum search feature sucks so bad that I can't find any of them.

This site is run very poorly from a search persepctive. You sponsers need to get on them.

Or get the mods to sticky some of the common questions like this. It comes up every few weeks or so.

I've looked over the thread mdhmi linked us to.

Looks like this would be needed only if we boost above say 8 lbs....

Do I infer correctly about critical pressure @ 8 or above ?

It is a potential problem with just about any boost level, but the issue becomes more serious as boost and blowby increase.

I've seen it be a major issue at 8psi.

Quicksilver,

If I remember correctly you have that trick little K&N filter on your valve cover port. If so were did you get it. I'm not refering to a breather on the oil fill cap.

QuickSilver2002,

I saw your diagram of the system you made.
What kind of restrictor valve do you use for your fresh air intake into the crankcase?

Thank you,
Chris

From my research this is the best way to vent the pressure, I know this is a diagram for a 3000gt, but it is the same principle. Run the small one way Krank vent from the PCV to the manifold, and the larger KV tie in both valve covers to the KV and then to a catch can. It will allow pressure out under boost, and keep vaccum in during normal driving.
